I don't know that a hot alum block necessarily means a bad job, maybe just a hard one. Is your face red now? Do you have bumps and irritation that lasts? If you aren't talking about discomfort that lasts for a length of time after your shave, I would say you are doing great. For me alum is just a reality check. I use it to remind myself that I'm not half as good as I think I am. Doesn't mean I had a bad shave.
Stick with it! It gets much better, particularly if you're doing a 30 day focus! FWIW, starting at 2:00, this video helped me more than any other to really understand what short, light shaving strokes look like.
Alum has always been a great way for me to see where I need to work on my technique. I'm working on ATG this month and use the alum as a test to see how I'm doing.
I got no plans to quit. Next month I'm going to focus more on technique and riding the cap. But I hate my face. My hair grows so slow. And I can't wet shave in the morning. I'm just not that kind of guy. So I end up wet shaving every other day. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
I'm not an every 24 hours shaver, either. If I wait 36 to 48 hours I'm up for a good session. Back when I grew a beard my goatee area was fastest growing, so I know that's all I'd need to shave every other time if I tried to do once per day. The good news is guys like us use maybe 1/4 less blades, soap, and AS than those that must shave every day. Can you imagine needing to shave twice every day? Nothing you can do to make it grow any faster short of taking supplements or vitamins. Instead working on technique to have an irritation free experience is a worthwhile goal.
Value Focused February Day Twenty-Five and Twenty-Six I am back...busy couple of days! Two DFS experiences, both courtesy of the above. It's almost time for the Madness to commence. Other than that... all is quiet in Colorado. Have a wonderful week!
Before the enjoyment of wet shaving, I would envy guys like you. I have always been shaving every day. I skipped a shave this morning and my facial hair is 1-3mm long and I still have 7 hours to go before I will shave. Now, I can partake rather frequently in this wonderful hobby
I was talking about @NCoxSTL kinda Madness. On Basketball, I might play a twenty buck bracket office pool kinda thing, but I don't really gamble on anything. (Poker isn't gambling.)
I've been reading along, and you're simply experiencing the learning curve. It's all about low attack angle and no pressure. You'll get it through practice. Keep on keeping on!
I think it just means that the razor completely exfoliated the skin, and maybe too much angle or pressure. And I agree, hot alum with a quick fade out to smooth comfort is perfectably acceptable.
Well I don't wet shave everyday but I do shave as part of my job. So I shaved tonight which will get me through tomorrow. Wet shaving tomorrow night might only catch a few hairs. I still feel pretty smooth. So Tuesday morning I'll use an electric which will do a passable job. Which means Tuesday night I might have some decent stubble. So maybe I should look into supplements.
