Just to sort of explain again my process behind the scoring. Every brush starts with a baseline score of five in every category. So today, the scores of five are not "failing" per se, they just mean that they perform that role at a basic or minimal level. Also each brush will be scored in each category based on how I feel they should perform for that type of brush. So conceivably a boar could have a higher score in soft tips than a silvertip if it is a great boar and a poor badger. That was the inly way I could figure out to have all types compete and keep it fair.

I set it up this way, because I didn't want to just hand out a nine in softness for the first soft knot I tried, because then you are stuck when the next one is a bit softer and you have to give it a ten, and you have nowhere else to go. I am hoping this way there is room to really let things stand out if they are exceptional.

So when you pick your scores, please note that yesterday's brush, one I really, really like scored 77% , and a Simpson that retails for over a hundred dollars just got 72%. Scores can be adjusted or changed up until Midnight tomorrow.

Sorry this little experiment ended up so off the wall, but the giveaway part was an afterthought or I would have maybe done it in a little more standard of a fashion.

All you are doing is comparing each brush against a perfect brush in that category and determining how it differs from perfection for that brush. It is a little different from what I thought you were doing which was finding which brush you own is best for you.

No problem . Just one question. Is it not possible to have a tie coming from different categories this way?

I suppose it is possible that a scores could total up and tie. I think odds are slim, but if there is, we will have some sort of shave off for the last few days.

It still does end up finding a favorite of sorts since so much of it is subjective.

I adjusted my score.

Day 3 with Dovo Master's, Shavemac 2 band and R66 setup.

Now that I load the brush a little in the tub and scoop some out and put it into the lather bowl the soap is performing great and making tons of lather. The lather was wet and slick as always, great for straight razor shaving. 4 passes and no blood, no irritation and smooth. The razor was just off my the Dovo red-black pasted strop and was smooth and sharp.

Post Shave: Alum, Thayers Lemon Witch Hazel, and Conk's Desert Breeze Lotion

So the first true shave of March (this morning I did use an electric) went OK. I'm trying a cream this time, and feel like I need to relearn how to make lather. I was using a mug. But I'll get there. The brush looks great, but wasn't really splaying that much. I was more like painting my face. Not a bad thing I don't think. I don't know how much is brush and how much is due to the cream if any. But to keep this an experiment, I am going to go back to my Maggard's Synthetic for the next shave. The jawline is still a problem, but I just need to work on pulling the skin. The alum still set my face on fire, but it didn't last and I don't have any redness or bumps.

The big positive from this shave is that I did not need to use the nick stick. Looked like there might have been a few spots, but nothing was there.

If I had to rate it, I would say DFS. I could probably have done some more touching up, but they weren't in big spots and I didn't want to press my luck We will see what next time brings.

My grandfather wore Skin Bracer, and let me splash some on when I "shaved" with him, so I keep a bottle around for nostalgic purposes. I can splash some on and, for a while, I'm 9 years old again.
