We had sunshine and temperatures in the 60's today. I was planning on raiding my humidor, but woke up with a cold sore in the middle of my lower lip...
Cigar today? Well, in fact, yes. A new brand here on St. Maarten, called cleverly enough "SXM Cigars." Made on St. Maarten from Cuban seed tobacco. I had one of the unflavored line, but there is also a line of several different flavored cigars (puke). In any case, IMHO, they have a long way to go yet... maybe a couple years to mellow out in a humi? Pretty harsh and aromatic in a bad way. But, at least the price was reasonable.
Had a few cigars yesterday 2014 Romeo Y Julieta Churchill 2015 Quintero Breva 2014 Bolivar petit corona
I smoke a lot of the Maduro Casa De Garcia. I know a cheaper stick but they are a great smoke I think. Have one lined up for the drive home after work.
Warm enough weather today, so I decided it was high time to try another (new to me) cigar from St. Maarten. This time it was "DAS" (brand name) toro with CT maduro wrapper. Hand rolled. It was a little hard to keep lit for the first couple puffs, no doubt because I somehow over-humidified it. But, this one was an enjoyable smoke. Although it was a maduro (which I don't usually like), the wrapper was more of a dark brown and not oily as opposed to the usual supper dark / almost black and oily appearance. I don't remember the pricing (bought at SXM airport), but I may just have to pick some more up on my next visit. Maybe in the lighter wrapper. You know, for comparison sake. I also have seen that you can now legally buy Cuban Rum and bring it in to the US for personal use. That will be on the "menu" as well. Tonight, however, I omitted my customary "wee dram" in favor of plain ol' water.
How does ye ole Penguin hold a cigar?? I have my usual Casa de Garcia MADURO lined up for the ride home from work today. Come onnnnnn 0600.
@macaronus sent me a Minion for cigar holding purposes. It's part of an internship exchange program we have.
