I haven't used a carbon in years....Used to get a week on an SS and maybe 3 shaves on a carbon, but I thought the quality was maybe a tad better with the carbon... Well tonight I tried one of those PAL Supers you sent...MANNA FROM HEAVEN! Thats the first carbon I've used in years....Shows what I know...lol! I remember you sent me some PAL Blues to try years ago when I was living in Istanbul...I was raving on and on about them and the Treet Supers that Tom sent! But I couldn't find them over there and I just fell into using the GEM SSs...Moved to Seattle and Walgreens carrys the GEM SSs so I've gotten in a rut...Man, tonights shave was an eye opener...Thanks! So you said you're getting 10ish 3 pass shaves? I think when I tried them before, I was tossing them as soon as I'd see those tiny brown spots...rather than waiting for the quality to go down. SO FUZZY;........HOW DO YOU DECIDE, WITH CARBONS, WHEN IT'S TIME TO TOSS IT? Do you go by the looks of the blade or by the shave quality? I'll keep using tonights set-up to get a good idea of when this PAL hits that point of diminishing returns....
HEY GUYS!!!! There doesn't seem to be too much love for the carbon SE blades around here ? Or is it my blinders keeping me from noticing? WHICH DO YOU PREFER.......STAINLESS OR CARBON SE BLADES???? Well if you haven't tried them...The PAL Supers and the Treet Supers....also the GEM Blue Stars....These are all incredible shavers...as long as you don't mind a tad more maintenance... After shaving I take mine out of the razor, swish in alcohol (rubbing, not Single-malt), towel pat dry, then I put a drop of baby oil on each side of the edge and keep it in a tin on my dresser til tomorrow...Carbon will rust so easy, but with a little care...Carbons, for the chosen, are like Heaven to shave with... ANYBODY ELSE DIG CARBON SE BLADES ???
I Shave until they die. All I do after the shave is dry them and the razor off. A few spots are no big deal. It's possible I over estimate the amount of shaves. But I do much prefer the CS to SS.
THERE YOU HAVE IT!! I know I've learned something... This just in from our man on the street reporting on Carbon vs Stainless! "All I do after the shave is dry them and the razor off. A few spots are no big deal" THATS IT ! I think it's highly possible that my maintenance regime is a bit excessive...I have seen some other cats get a little excessive compulsive with Carbon Blade Maintenance....But if the Fuzz-ster says take it light...I think you can take that to the bank! So whichever way you want to go....Carbons give great shaves.... I think from now on, I'll just Swish, Oil, and put back in the dried razor and leave it there waiting for me til tomorrow....I dig a little Pomp & Circumstance...But now I know if I don't have time, I'll just dry and fly....
Tues 14th March Now getting used to The General ,works well for me with a heavier handle. This one matches well with the head. Was initially wary of using the Feather Pro, but 5 shaves in have had no problems , but I have no need to rush my Shaves. A nice addition to my Shaving Rotations.
SOTD March 14, 2017 Blade: Chinese Schick Razor: Schick I1 injector Brush: Artisan badger Lather: Fine Lavender Post: Witch hazel splash, Fine Lavender aftershave WTG, touch-up Schick I1 today. Smooth, nice razor. The first pass wasn't quite as comfortable as it should have been. I put in a new blade before touch-up and that made a big difference. Comfortable, easy-going shave. Hope you have a great day!
Razor: Supply Provision Custom 3 dot head Blade: Chick Brush: That Darn Rob silvertip Soap: Uncle Jon's Silk Road Post Care: Thayers Witch Hazel Alum Aftershave: Uncle Jon's Silk Road Another wonderful travel shave this morning. The Uncle Jon's soap lathered easily and it's wonderful scent filled the room. Three easy passes for a BBS shave. This Supply Provision razor is so easy to use and provides excellent shaves, easily the best razor I own. Have a great day folks!
Tuesday's March SE Maddness Dove Men Face Wash TSD Lime Jayaruh #145 Eversharp-Schick I Ted Pella Injector CWR, Asma Alum Block Thayer's Lemon WH Pinaud Clubman AS The TSD Lime Shave Soap face-lathered well with my Jayaruh #145 synthetic brush. I did two passes the Eversharp-Schick I and Ted Pella Injector blade, I ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse and alum block, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Pinaud Clubman AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
The week of crappy shaves. Second use of the Gem carbon felt rough in the 1914, slightly better in the Damaskeene but the shave was neither close nor comfortable. My opinion that these blades are good for exactly one shave hereby reaffirmed. Permasharp equipped Shovelhead did fine for the head shave, not as smooth as the Gem shave yesterday but ultimately closer and certainly acceptable. Two shaves per edge definitely works here. I like both carbon and ss. I think the carbons shave better for 3-4 shaves. Then they go down hill fast. I get 6 shaves from SS then I toss them. I hand strop both after each shave. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
I think that's about right. I shave my head as well so get fewer uses but roughly twice as many with SS. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Wed 15th March Feel quite lucky to have got hold of this British Made Razor, the Executive Shaving S/S Se "Claymore". As it name might suggest it may be on the Heavy side for many, but I am getting really smooth and comfortable shaves with it, especially with the Schick Proline P-20.
Yup that is what works for me. It's part of my clean up routine. Like wiping down the sink and washing the brush and such. I do all of that and dry my razor and blade before I put on aftershave.
A Clean and Dry Shave Cave is a Happy Shave Cave Thanks for the skinny on that Fuzzy....I really have never been that exposed to the real day to day protocol of using these carbon blades....I've been way too Excessive Compulsive about brown spots and such...I need to kick back and enjoy the ride....
SOTD March 15, 2017 Blade: Chinese Schick Razor: Schick I1 injector Brush: Surrey badger Lather: Deep South Soap Company 'Smoky Mountain Rain' Post: Witch hazel splash, Barbasol Pacific Rush aftershave WTG, touch-up Good shave with the I1 today. Smooth and comfortable. The soap was new to me and I didn't get great lather from it. I bowl lathered instead of my usual face lather as I had a small dime-sized sample to try out. Decent performance from the soap. Overall a good shave with no complaints. Have a great day!
