Sorry guys, I passed out. Just woke up cuddling my open jars of soap....

What did I miss? 4 packages went out and no one has anything to say????

No new reviews from samples you took, nothing???

I am not sure which is worse, all the tempting posts of all the great soaps in the box or... SILENCE!!!!

Only one package arrived here since I shipped The Box out. It's a disposable kamisori and not really sniff worthy.

Sorry, I used my new B&M Night Music set for my last shave. I'm grabbing something from my samples for tonight's shave.
I also completely forgot to forward the tracking numbers, I'll do it as soon as I get home

I'm out of town, returning tomorrow as well. However, if anything arrives smelling like "the detergent aisle threw up" I'm sure I'll hear about it. (By the way, whoever's wife used this description earlier in this thread sounds an awful lot like my wife.)

I wasn't even thinking about the tracking numbers. completely forgot. No biggie. Was trying to drum up a little chat here if possible.

Tell me about Night Music. What does it smell like? Do you find it one of the better, must have B&M soaps?

I was thinking about Rhapsody and Awesometown but Awesometown ran out and I read poor reviews on Rhapsody even though what is listed sounded nice. Night Music sounds great too.

    I'm in heaven.

Night Music is amazing. Very complex scent; heavy vanilla and musk with a slight sweetness. The aftershave and EDT combo lasted all day. I got several compliments on it. B&M is a top tier maker, slightly thirsty soaps but excellent performance. I haven't tried Rhapsody so I can't comment on it but most of his scents are polarizing. I have Hallows, First Snow, Le Grande Chypre, Leviathan and Roam and they are all fantastic. I also have the Petrichor set on the way and can't wait. A good thing snot B&M is there will always be someone out there to by it if you don't like it.

    IT'S HERE, IT'S HERE!! WOOOOOOO

Anyways, our wonderful #^#!!&&#*(*&^!^*(/# postman decided to leave the box out in the thunderstorm, so my loving wife carefully cradled it to safety. We just went through the first sniff test and WOW, too many amazing soaps to name, we slid the no box to the side to give, them another chance tomorrow before myself, my trusty knife and a quart of apple pie go to work making samples. Big thanks to ob2page for having this so organized, made it much easier to identify the ones I wanted to smell first on here. The Mrs' first impressions found here favoring the TSD cool water, the tubes of lemon derby and palmolive, stirling executive man, klar, mdc, and the sweet almond. Apparently she's already picked cool water for date night, again I'll try to make this as quick as possible fly2high but I'm gonna need a few more sample containers than I thought

What is your thoughts on First Snow? Is it just another pine scent? Do you find it good or better to go with say Stirling Scot Pine Sheep or Traiga?

I really like First Snow, the pine is very much there but there's also a great leather scent with it. It's different enough from the straight pine scents to stand out.

    Cool thanks.

Crazy question: with so many soaps in the pass around box, has anyone just whipped up a lather and not shave with it?

Just curious how everyone is evaluating the contents. Sure, I know most take a sample of what they like but I wanted to see if some had other ways to judge what they like.

    Thanks for humoring me

Since I'm two down on the list, I can't speak from "box experience", but I can tell you that I got sample packs from several brands (TOBS, Taylor, Stone Cottage), and the performance of each within the brand was very similar. (I know this is not always true, based on soap types within a brand, etc. , but stick with me). That being the case, I have whipped up a lather just to see if I liked one fragrance vs another to determine what I was going to buy wihthout having to test the performance of every sample. To me, if it isn't a smell I like, then performance becomes a moot point. If it was one I was considering buying, obviously I shaved with it first to confirm performance.

April 6 - First sample soap from the pass around box - Mama Bear Ice Citrus

Thank you gang for sending me these samples from the pass around box. It was a great introduction to what the big box must be like. Today, it was a challenge to see which one I was going to try. I have never tried anything menthol and I love citrus scents so I figured I would go with Mama Bear Ice Citrus. the sample contained 3 dollops of soap so I took one out, pressed it into my bowl and was anxious to give it a go. I put about a teaspoon of water to help soften it. To me, it was either about as hard as Stirling or a little harder.

The scent was barely there and the menthol was nonexistent. the best I could guess for the scent was either a tangerine or citronella scent but extremely muted. Big time disappointed but it did educate me in the fact that scents do dissipate and menthol might be the first to go. Ok, I did also get a B&M Arctique so that might need to be my first menthol experience.

As for lather, I fell to old habits. With the soap pressed extremely thinly into the bowl and water sitting for the duration of the shower, I spent a lot of time whipping up the lather. After several additions, I had a very light and foamy lather with light shininess. Not the shiniest I have been able to do but with so little to work with, it should be fine. Still had little scent. It was cloud like full of extremely small bubbles. Peaks were defined but easily fell over. Not as dense as Stirling but more like the lather I got from Wheat State. I expect I whipped too much and added water too slowly to get here. It covered well in good thickness and did not deflate for the 15-20 mins it took to shave. One major plus, it took no effort to make the lather. Granted, I have rather soft Long Island water which doesn't hurt.

Results of the shave are in the April Focus thread. Suffice it to say I got a DFS. This soap seemed less slick and less protective than Stirling, my regular soaps. I am sure some of this is the soap and much of this is caused by my feeble lathering skills. None the less, this is a newbie point of view so it could be of value to other newbies.

Outside from the fact that Mama Bear does not list this on their site, I am not sure I would purchase it again. I do think MB is a good soap but I need more time to see if its slickness could be better with a fresher sample or more water. At this point, I find it similar to TOBS. I would put Wheat State tops for slickness and Stirling a very close second but Stirling is the most protective I have yet tried. Of course, my experience is limited to TOBS, AOS, Stirling, Arko, WS and now Mama Bear. I have not owned any soap over 3 months and have no idea how much soap scents fade but, if I would purchase from MB, I would desire to use it rather quickly from this experience so as to enjoy the scents they offer. Then again, this is now true for all my soaps.

I will say that from this experience, I might desire to try their Mandarin Ice, Grapefruit Ice, Lemon Ice and Lime Ice soaps. I do feel I would be happy with any of them. If any of you have tried these 4 soaps, I would love to hear your impressions.

    Frugal Frank....

    RyX DoH!

From the Vendors samples, I saved those for after the box moved on. Same for the other products that were new*to*me. I scooped, lathered, and shaved with those I considered swapping into my den.
Still have more than half my samples yet untried.
