Today has been exciting for a number of reasons. Some historically bad storms came through the area for much of the day. There were thunderstorms. Oh, the storms! It seems that there were tornadoes and hail all around us (within a few miles) but they seemed to barely miss us, and for that I am thankful. All is finally calm and I am enjoying sitting on the porch and listening to wildlife slowly climb back out of hiding.
My wife and I took advantage of being stuck inside and went to work on our bathroom, which has been in a state of flux for some time. End result? I finally have something resembling a shave den. My daughter and I have been working on a little cabinet we rescued from a second hand shop, and I finally got it mounted. It's amazing what I have amassed in less than a year of wet shaving, and I finally have a place for it within easy reach. I also took the time to wash all my razor before setting them up. I have them on two racks: one is a test tube rack, and the other a nice pipe rack that I repurposed. It has a humidor jar in the middle that is now slap full of fine Russian steel. Here's some pics of the results:
In the process of cleaning up, I came across something I had forgotten: my last cartridge razor, complete with one last cartridge. It has been a full year since I have used one. I decided to send it off with the least sexy shave I could muster. My shave of the day?
End result? Honestly, a perfectly acceptable result. But while it was fun to reminisce, I really didn't enjoy the process as much as I do with my vintage gear. So I send off my cartridge with this last hurrah. All in all, lots that could have gone wrong today: tornadoes, hail, strong winds, flash flooding, cartridge shaves... but all is well that ends well. I just don't want to see any of them again any time soon.
