1. I got this batch of Louisville Slugger bat nubs from Charlie, AKA @wristwatchb. The limiting factor is the skinny end. I got out today and turned some test handles.

This is my first attempt making a handle out of the Louisville Slugger wood stubs. Below is the same handle, just different knots. Left to right: Maggard 22mm synthetic, boar, 23mm two-band badger.

Below, I am experimenting with shape/size. #1 is suggestive of a ball, and #5 of a ball and bat.

  9. +1 for a brand label! Anyone for "Wonderboy" from The Natural?
  10. One way I can think of is to use clear decal sheets, the kind used for plastic modeling. Then find the logo on the net, and print them to the decal sheet and preserve it with a decal solution. Cut to shape and after applying it to the handle and letting it dry, give it a couple more coats of finish to preserve it.

  14. I hope these handles are made by hand. Making machined handles is just lathe-y.

  17. Are these nubs souvenirs that can be bought, or were they freebies?

  18. My Bride and I toured The Slugger Museum a few weeks ago. During the tour, they gave each of us one. A few weeks later, I called them, spoke to an employee (didn't get her name), offered to buy a few, and she gave me a sackful free of charge. I told her they'd be used for shaving brush handles. She mentioned that she would ship them free of charge if the recipient paid the shipping. I live nearby, so I just stopped by to pick them up. If you're interested, you might give them a call and work something out for yourself.
  19. Today, I was lathe-y.
