Well all, here is what I found under all that patina after doing the hot water, foil and baking soda thing. Not going to do more than that as it was a first and I do not want to ruin what plating is still there. Anyway, here it is!
SOTD 20170411 Brush: Cadman with finest knot (24 mm - loft 50 mm). Shaving soap: Tcheon Fung Sing "Tabacco Verde Forte". Razor: Blackland "Blackbird" OC with long (101 mm) handle. Blade: Rockwell Razors Swedish Stainless Steel (6). After shave: Tcheon Fung Sing "Tabacco Verde Forte" ASB. Lovely scent, that Tabacco Verde. Very smooth with the Blackbird ! -Auto-Strop VC1 Razor -Personna Gem Blade (de-splined) -Erskine K-250 Badger Brush -Love My Skin Beau Brummel Cybilla Soap -Dickinson's Witch Hazel -Aqua Velva Musk After Shave My second shave with the Auto-Strop and it seems like I have gotten better on how to use it properly. Kept the head flat against my face, except for beneath the sideburns and goatee for a good trim job, and had a really great shave with it. It rivals the shaves I get with my Gems, well it is the same blade. Two passes with some touch up and it produced a very smooth and comfortable BBS shave.

i have a canadian old type,harsh for me,a merkur 1904/6 oc and this newly acquired 1930s new sc that i will be trying this weekend.i am used to rockets and techs.are there any different techniques needed to make this shave a success?.thanks gary
