I'm not Keeper of the List, but let's assume you are, Sir. This open discussion is consensus building. So far there is still an option to get a knotless handle. Like you I also have a Tux and really like it. Now we campaign & filibuster, and hire a couple lobbyists. If we of the Cashmere Party can sway enough votes, there might be a discount on a group buy of knots. If it doesn't happen we can still arrange an Independent purchase
Sorry, have been too busy with family stuff to chime in. Whether or not we get consensus for a common knot from APShave Co, even different knots in mulitiples work out to a significant savings shipping-wise. The shipping cost on one knot is $7 USD. 10 random knots from AP? Shipping is $2 each USD to my address. I've said it before, sorry to repeat myself, but adding the knot to a handle would result in zero additional international shipping cost to all you COTUS folks (and you too, Keith!) Shipping just the handles is super OK with me as well.
Just realized, my post earlier from this afternoon wasn't clear- When I said how do we decide on an order, I meant an order for the number of the brushes, not deciding on a knot order. Sorry for the confusion. The knot order is simply 'are you in or out'. Easy. How we decide the order of how I ship these out is why I showed the 'hiding under the chair' emoji...
Oh well we could roshambo for it? Otherwise doesn't matter to me Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Can I still get #13? Rather than suffering from triskaidekaphobia I'm a triskaidekaphiliac. I worked in a Donut shop like Adam @Drygulch and appreciate a Baker's dozen.
Arko Adjustable April!!!!! April 21 Razor - 1962 (H1) Gillette Slim (6) Blade - (2) Soap - Arko Brush - Jayaruh #46 Post - Alum I just realized that this week has become a real Turkey of a week. Arko and Derby. Both Turkish products. Yeah, so I'm a little slow. I never claimed to be the sharpest tack in the box. Anyway, I opened the Slim to 6 and grabbed the JR46 after a long day and started in. Whatever the "premium Swedish steel" is it seems to work just fine. Two passes and at the more "normal" 6 it was a completely smooth and quite effective shave. And the finish with just a bit of work on the neck is as close to BBS as you can get without quite being there. Or else it's there and I just don't want to admit it. Either way it is an incredibly nice finish. And the alum - quiet as it can be. No issues at all with the shave. It's pretty obvious that the Derby Premium is not a bad blade at all when handled correctly. We'll take it to 9 on the Slim tomorrow and then switch to three days on the Extra to see what differences may be found. If the shaves stay the way they have the past two nights it's going to be a few nice and easy days. Welcome to your weekend! Hope it's a good one for everyone!
Base price of both is the same - $21.99 Cdn (ballpark $15 US). Any difference from a discount is likely not that large, so I would look more at the knots than the price. The Tuxedo seems to have thicker fibres with soft tips, while the Cashmere has thinner softer fibres and relies on tight packing of the knot to give backbone. Both have great reviews from users. My personal gut feeling is that the Tuxedo probably has greater durability and in the long run will be the better knot, but I have absolutely no hard data of any kind to back that up. Basically, flip a coin. The cashmere looks like a boar brush, the tuxedo looks like nothing else out there. Both should look good in the handle... Edit:. Excuse me while I go sit in the corner again, and dither and chew my nails some more. Now TWO good knot options from APShave Co or my own individually purchased knot to decide between (among?)...
"Mr. Speaker! The Gentleman from Saskatoon has a point. Never the less I shall make loud noises and suggest a deeper recess in the handle would make up for the perceived possible lack of longevity of fiber and increase.. Increase I say!.. the backbone of said Cashmere. I yield the floor." (Edit; No worries, I'm thinking Cashmere for mine. The burning question so far unanswered because no one has asked - how much of a discount would APShaveCo give?)
I'll email APShaveCo right now and ask. Since he's in Ontario and it's after midnight there, we will likely have an answer tomorrow. Edit:. Done. Asked for price per knot for all Cashmere, all Tuxedo, or a mix of both for 10 to 15 knots.
Spoiler (Move your mouse to the spoiler area to reveal the content) Show Spoiler Hide Spoiler You can call me Shavette Fu, Shavattar, Shavetteapocalypse, Shavetteoholic and anything else that pleases you, as long as i don't enter in close proximity to a real shavette! I am trying to enhance my enjoyment here as much as possible, you might as well do the same, i don't blame you. I 've put on hold every other hobby of mine, in order to arrive to a status where i can shave without presenting myself with band aids all over my face, so i am really trying to enjoy this, so that i don't have to think about my real hobbies which are on ice currently. Ehilà, Frank is Francesco! A good Italian, is a frugal Italian. Do you know why Italians are the best in pasta? Because families had many members and somehow you had to feed them all. Pasta is cheap and you can even make it yourself. But how can you make it different? Simple. You take this humble ingredient and develop so many recipes, that each day is different dish. Any leftover could be used to make a new pasta dish. Nothing was wasted. You can make a pasta dish, just with garlic and chilly peper or simply stale bread. To the point, that it becomes an art. The pasta is like the Proraso of food. Cheap, yet you can make it give excellent results! More power to Francesco! I am beyond petty attempts to make fun out of me. I have already screenshots of everything, including of your confessed conspiracy. You 'd better hire Matlock or Perry Mason, if you want to have at least a 1 in 1000 chance in Court. Smile! Screenshot! Good photos, especially the 1st one. In the 2nd one, the clipped shavette does even more damage than normal to the photo. It would have been better if you just had omitted it and had the other items unclipped. I know this photo was yours, before even seeing your name. Signature Clint photo. Nice photo, but it would have been perfect, if you have centered the soap container a liiitle bit more. But, simple, yet elegant. I am not bloaviating! Just declaring the honest truth! Verified even in blind trial by others! If you want my newbie suggestion for something similar to Astra, try either Dorco ST301 (many people hate it, not me!!!) or even better the newer Dorco Prime Platinum (aka STP301) . It's supposed to be sharper and has teflon for smoother cut. I would have bought it myself, if it wasn't for the fact that the "simple" ST301 is already way sharp for my taste. Nice photo. Microfiber cloth, yes? I love them. So versatile! I use them everywhere. Have excellent antiscratching properties too! Which is why i don't shy of resting my blade there to dry. They are indicated even for cleaning computer monitors and eye glasses, exactly because they don't scratch. Another very good one! Phewww! These were a LOT of posts to go through! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pseudofocus report: Weishi FL + Proraso Blue + Shark SS on its 2nd shave + Omega 48 - Lather: Best lather i 've built. Not really, but this time, i inspired from the Master face latherer @wchnu (how did you come up with this name, i had to seach the forum to find your exact name!) , when i saw the lather dry up in the left side of my face, i did a sort of mini face lather on the fly, instead of taking it from the bowl again. - The Shark SS: Same shaving result as with Derby (a bit better in some few points of the throat), with less effort (it simply cuts more) and i don't know if it's just my impression, but it was more docile in the 2nd shave than it was in the 1st. Again, this is what Derby dreams to be when it grows up. It's a weird blade, because it has a cutting sound that reminds roughness, but WTG is very smooth and forgiving. It's not as smooth as Derby, but sure cuts more! And i don't think i can cut myself with it. Very forgiving. EASILY it has been approved for a 3rd shave. On other news, i am contemplating the hypothesis of getting a Fatip Gentile. Why bother with variables, when i can get a gentle, yet more aggressive razor than ones i have, plus full brass and at the same time, i can support one of the last local razor makers? I read about blade alignment problems, but, i have them with EJ DE89 too. I think sooner or later, i will buy the Gentile and let alone adjustables and such. I don't need a super blade exposure to shave well. I also think i will buy again more Sharks, maybe try the Super Chrome too, cause, i really like the Shark. It's not just that i can get a very good shave, i like it from a variability and userfriendliness point of view. I will be soon at 1200 blades, but i think i can go to 100 more SS and 100 more SC at this point. If i die by natural death at the average male value of 76, i still have margin. If not, someone will inherit them and either use them or sell them on ebay. Oh well...
The name wchnu is "watching you ". I worked almost 10 years in casino surveillance. That along with 10 years of Security work. I spend a lot of time watching people so I use the name wchnu.
Well, now maybe there is a chance i can remember it (not sure). That's nice. I am a hobbyist of counter-watching, in a sense. Years in PC privacy forums on how to avoid malware/privacy attacks. And without using a gun!
Uh Oh... your under-cover 'cover' might be in jeopardy 'Fuzz-man'! Wait a minute....I forgot who I was talking to..... Carry on .....I see nothin....I hear nuthin....
Alright! I want to know....which one of you cats came up with "ride the cap".... I think that quote might be Pulitzer Prize worthy! I and many others have burned up and spilled out litres of cyber ink trying to discribe.....well, exactly that..."riding the cap" I think I have traced it's origin here...to this thread....maybe ...."Bama" dude ( @Bama Samurai ) came up with it or maybe @Rufus T. ... I think we need to know this...."Ride the Cap" is so beautiful in it's simplicity that it's deceptive as to how genius that phrase, like, is.... Soo, lets get to work and trace this phrase to it's origin....or will the author please set forward!
Sounds great to me! I was thinking of the Tuxedo knot, so if you are still thinking of placing an order, I would probably jump on board with that! Thanks Jason!
Haha! If i really wanted, i could come here in the forum, appearing as living in Korea or Kongo or Russia or Turkey and not even the forum owners would be able to find out where i really am from.
