Nice shave with Stirling Sandpiper this morning. Terrific lather and great scent. The E2 took care of two days of whiskers with no problems. Smooth and efficient.

Half awake this morning, really wishing I had a can of barbasol SC to get me out the door. Great 1 pass shave.

After one of the worlds slowest recoveries from the flu, and a bonus cortizone epidural last week in my back, I decided that a groundbreaking shaving achievement was not on my list of things to do Monday morning. I dialed back the slim to 3, kept dad's tall handle shimmed with the elite manchurian, and tried out a sample of one of the few stone cottage samples I did not PIF away; the almond flower. All in all I was happy to start the week with a DFS requiring minimal thought or effort. While we're on the subject of minimal thought and effort, I snapped a really crappy photo of this morning's shave gear just so everyone can appreciate how good some of the amateur photography here is by stark contrast of the following. I expect shavette fu to chime in any moment now! Also for your Monday enjoyment is a quick family shave photo with my oldest daughter goofing around. Have a great week everyone!

Day 29 of 30 days of Henckel straights

2 passes today and a DFS. Using a straight has definitely gotten easier over the last 59 days. This was a bloodless shave until my razor slipped off of the counter and I decided to catch it in mid-air. Yes, I have heard the phrase "never try to catch a falling knife", but it was pure instinct. Even with the cut on my finger, which is actually much smaller than many I have put on my face, this was a good shave.

We interrupt our regularly scheduled Soap Focus for Menthol Monday. I actually remembered this week so I got out the C O Bigelow and using the Omega 6212 whipped up a cooling, slick, cushiony lather. 2.5 passes of shaving excellence later, I had a DFS+. A splash of Proraso Lozione Dopobarba and I was ready to face Monday morning.

Day 18 of the Old Type focus, day 3 with a Derby. The Seville whipped up its usual fantastic lather and I had a fairly routine 3+ pass shave this morning on 2 days of stubble. Can't say I'm a huge fan of this Derby, but it was still a workable, pleasant shave. Will go back to a Sharp Star for tomorrow.

The only thing worse than a Monday morning is a rainy and messy Monday morning. At least I was able to get a good shave in before battling the post interstate collapse commute. The Bay Lime Twist scent with its blend of citrus and bay is a hit for me. The fact that the soap just flat nails all the other performance criteria puts it over the top. With a wonderful slick lather, the Wolfman OC with increased blade gap made short work in 2 passes. The increased gap saves an entire pass over the standard gap model. However, this razor is not as forgiving or quite as comfortable to use. A splash of Folsom & Co Shambala was a great end to the shave. The commute turned out to be better than normal which really topped off the morning. I hope everyone has a great Monday.

Very nice. However, dear @Drygulch just imagine the same photo without the straight razor! Much better, wouldn't it? (note, that i now know that this is a straight razor and not a shavette. Not that it matters much to their common uglyness!).

Nonsense, nonsense! The Derby is an amazing blade! You just need to improve your technique, that's all! Ask @Bama Samurai!

Pseudofocus Report: Weishi FL + Proraso Blue + Personna Red (1st time).
- Lather: Started poorly, end up good. It remined me the lather that @mrchick makes.
- Personna Red: This for me, is the most balanced blade i 've used so far. 0 nicks, 0 irritation, 1 suspicion of weeper on the moustache, but never confirmed. BBS pretty much overall, with some DFS areas below jawline, but i didn't insist much with touchups. If i were to do 15 repasses like with Derby, it would have been 100% BBS. The suspect weeper might be the spot where i nicked myself with Derby and the skin might be more vulnerable there. But, i am not sure it was a weeper or a marginal irritation. Not as sharp as Astra or Dorco ST301 for me, but felt safer than both. It was like an upgraded Shark. I consider Shark SS my baseline blade for sharpness and safety. It's sharp enough to cut, but very safe. Personna Red was sharper and a bit less safe, but it was safer than Astra and Dorco ST301. I think i will order 200 more Personnas. The only thing i didn't like with the Personna, is that the blade seemed much more rigid than any other i 've used. At times, i had the impression that i was passing a knife from my cheek, because it felt unbendable... I think i prefer more flexible blades. They go for 11.50EUR for 100, compared to the 7.70 EUR for 100 of the Astra SP, but i think it's close enough to worth it from a variability point of view. I am going to order more Sharks too. Shark feels more "rustic" blade, but yet, very safe. And has a loud cutting noise that i almost find funny. I intend to put rotation in blades, in a high-low pattern. When i will be alterning the "dangerous" blades (Astra, Dorco) with the "safe" blades (Personna, Shark SS, D..D..eeerr...b...yyyy). I am also considering ordering 100 Treet Platinums, since my fav shop has them for like 8.80 EUR for 100. I read good things and @crackstar, who is a Derby lover hates them, so since i hate Derby, i should love Treets, right?

So: Sharpness: Astra SP > Dorco ST301 (by little) > Personna Red > Shark SS >> Derby Extra.
Safety: Derby Extra > Shark SS > Personna Red > Astra SP = Dorco ST301.

Next in line: SuperMax Super Stainless blue box. I just got 1 little pack of them to try, cause they 're probably crap. But if they 're not, Amazon has 200 for 6.50 EUR. But, i doubt they will be any good.

On other worrisome news, there might be a Weishapocalypse upon us! I thank the good God that i managed to order the 2nd Weishi before they disappeared!!!
