That looks pretty neat, and I think it will look even better when some of the artificial patina wears off and you have bits of bright brass showing through.
Razor: Portland Razor Co Chimera / Supply Provision Custom 3 dot head Blade: Chick Strop: Drygulch 45 Brush Handle: B-400 The Brush by Tom Knot: APShaveCo Tuxedo Soap: Viking Valhalla Post Care: Thayers Witch Hazel Alum Osage Rub Aftershave: Viking Valhalla balm Fantastic shave this morning. First time using the Valhalla and it is a great soap; easy lather, great cushion and glide, wonderful scent. The balm was also nice, it's not greasy, absorbs quickly and my skin feels nourished. Hopefully the scent has some staying power. Three passes today, first with the Supply and the next two with the Chimera. Just missed the baby but a great shave nonetheless. Have a great day folks!
I haven't, mainly because they don't have a soap to match. I have not doubt I will get a set at some point when I order something from them. I didn't really plan on getting this set, but it seemed stupid to only order one thing from PAA, so I added this set to the creosote aftershave I ordered. I will be using that on Saturday with the disposable shavette.
I think so too. I got the idea from a thread on the Charcoal Goods Antique Brass razor that the antique patina was wearing off of the high points. For $5 it was worth a try.
I will say this. When I did Cinco de Julio last year with the popsicle sticks, I thought I was going to shred my face. I actually barely missed a BBS, with very little blood. For me it was a huge confidence builder, knowing that the fundamentals of a good shave are there, and I can pretty much shave with anything. Even when we are talking about the stupid stuff for Mayhem, the questions that I have around each questionable device are more about how to build it, not if it can get a good shave. Simply because if I can mount a blade so it doesn't flex, and have a good way to hold it, I can shave with it period. This group taught me that. It makes straights and shavettes a lot less intimidating.
SOTN May 4th Schick E3 Astra SP(2) Sir Hare Classic Barber Simpsons Chubby 2 Synthetic Fine American Blend Last night I had a MAYhem shave that was well, rather lacking in mayhem. The star of the show was my new Simpsons Chubby 2 Synthetic. What an amazing brush! The knot is unlike any other synthetic that I've ever used, and synthetics are my favorite. Super soft bristles, as soft as the plisson style knots, but packed so densely that this brush is not "springy" like most other synthetics. I loaded for about 20 seconds and had the knot completely saturated with soap. I took the loaded brush to my scuttle and it immediately transformed the soap into a thick creamy, glistening, lather that was devoid of air bubbles, usually I have to work the lather for a few minutes to get to that consistency. The second shave with the modified Astra SP in the E3 was just as smooth as the first and after 3 passes was as smooth as can be. Finished up with spritz of Fine American blend. Have a great day my friends!
Great photo Andrew. I thought you would really love the brush. Now you understand why I am crazy enough to have the same brush in different colors.
