Don't have a Fatboy, but I do have this: Gillette NEW SC(ca 1932-1940) Does really well on two day growth and weekday stubble loaded with a GSB. One of these days if I find a Fatboy I'll let you know who does what better!
R41 is not strictly an open comb but not that close would be my answer. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Open Comb does not equal aggressive. Just ask people who have an H1 and an H2, or any of the Wolfman SB/OC pairs, where the geometries are identical, the only difference being open comb vs not. That being said, I would put the 2013 R41 a bit above the wide open Fatboy. I would say the Fatip is probably closer to a wide open Fatboy or Slim.
I actually had different experience with the slim, the reason I sold the slim is because even bumped on 9 setting it felt like a medium aggressive razor. My Fatip Gentile feels more aggressive than the Slim on 9 setting, the Fatip Grande aggressiveness would be equal if the Slim/Fatboy had 18 settings....
You could be right. My opinion might be a little skewed by the fact that my Fatboy has custom blade gaps a couple of levels higher than normal. My Slim is standard though.
Having a fatboy, r41, and few different types of oc, the R41 is the most aggressive thing aside from the futur clone that I've used. The fatboy at setting 9 isn't that close to me. It's aggression is different . The aggression bites but not the same. I would say it's lower than the R41
My recollection is that the change in blade gap adjustment gives on the Fatboy doesn't influence exposure enough to change its relatively mild character. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
I have both razors. The Fatboy on 9 is MORE aggressive than the R41. Way bigger gap and more blade exposure at that high setting. The R41 has an, imo, undeserved reputation for aggressiveness. Ride the cap and it's a pussycat.
I sold both razors so can't compare, I'd love to see comparative exposure measurements (which are tough to do) or a close up and personal photos of same. I know measured blade gap on the Fatboy at 9 is approximately equal to the Futur on 1. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
After shaving with the FaTip Piccolo again, but this time with a Derby blade, I think I can say that it is MUCH more aggressive than a NEW Long Comb. I think I'm going to get rid of it. I had it for when I have longer hair to remove, but it was VERY rough with Astra, and very rough with Derby. The second pass, after most of the hair had been removed, was much more gentle - but I have better razors for lower hair growth.
When I started wet shaving I also thought having an an aggressive razor like the r41 would prevent razor burn and or save time better shave. WOW! I was so wrong It's about prep, hair reduction, and technique. I can achieve a great shave with a Gillette Tech, prep, multiple passes, and time with the tool.
Agreed. My Ikon Tech, ATT H2, Charcoal Level 3, PAA DOC Evo in stainless and aluminum, R41 2013 and 2011, and FaTip piccolo all give significantly closer, more aggressive, longer-lasting shaves on my face than my Slim at 9.
As do I. I just hope it's not like the last two items ordered from China. Two+ months for one item, a month+ for the other. Never had that problem before. One item was shipped _twice_. Post office hasn't a clue. One even had/has a shipping tag. It shows being packaged up to ship to the US by the shipping company.. and that's it.
I'm contemplating ordering a couple more. One week from China, with tracking. I think it's worth the $3 price difference vis a vis Malaysia etc. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Neither Malaysia, nor China. Mines coming from the Philippines. Ordered on the 2nd. The estimated delivery is May 15th - 30th. I hope it's not in a bubblewrap envelope. I prefer saving the NIB box.
