I Got these 2 NOS SRs in the Post Recently..Both are Mint NOS Jobs with the Factory Grease...A George & Butler Sheffield 15/16th & G Felix Solingen 5/8th..I Got them to Sell for a Wee Turn but I Might Just Keep the Big Blade George & Butler 15/16th for My Own Collection..I Cut My Finger Wiping the George & Butler so I Haven't Been able to Shave Over the Last 5 Days or So..I Will Hone them Up Later..

I just finished honing this Folding Asymmetrical Kamisori, "Suzuki". I did not do a traditional Kamisori hone, but a Western style hone. I initially had to remove about 1/3 rd of the bevel, to get to good steel. I then, when I got around to it, after dulling it and trying to refinish the blade, set the bevel with one layer of tape. This was not slow or fast, but it was at a normal speed. I used a 1k King stone with a slurry, for the bevel. After this, I took the tape off and used a 3k ???, 8k 12k 15k Welsh Slate Stones. After this I finished with a Surgical Black Arkansas progression stone.
I hit the Chromium Oxide strop, then the plain linen strop. Finally finishing on the leather. End results were a wickedly sharp, hair popping blade. I will try it out tonight.

No photo, as I just posted a photo of the same razor a day or two ago. I dulled my 5/8 Eric Anton Berg on the back of my Apache Red stone until it couldn't cut hot butter. I then used a fairly viscous, soapy water solution (just some vanilla scented Dove hand soap and tap water, applied directly to the stone and mixed with my finger). While honing, I slowly diluted the soap solution until I was using pure water. After 30 minutes of alternating small circles, half-X's, and full X-strokes, the blade popped hairs effortlessly. The bevel looked surprisingly smooth and polished. I am going to strop it up and do a shave directly off the Apache Red tonight, just to see how it performs.

Three honed today, with my usual progression. I did this after sanding and polishing the blades. Minor rust on each blade.

Top- J.R.Torrey Razor Co. Worcester Mass
This was a little bit of a bugger. About 1/4 inch near the toe, but more towards the center, just wasn't getting as sharp as I liked. I did notice that one side of the spine was thicker than the other side, which caused a sharped edge angle on one side. I also noticed that the 1/4 inch area had a minute frown. PITA. So, back to the bevel again. I have it popping hair, down the entire edge now, but only the shave will tell.

This was a joy to hone. Zero issues, and took a fine, sharp edge, quickly. The only issue I had was warped scales, causing the blade to bite the edge. I straightened them out, before honing, and all is right.

Bottom- John Brahm. Barbers Notch. I have never heard of this one before.
This was an easy cleanup. The honing was relatively normal. Not too easy, and not hard. It had a bad edge from the start, so the entire bevel had to be redone. Not a big deal. It is very sharp now.

Seriously. Other than work, the kids, the wife, working out daily, the dogs, and all my yardwork, i get kind of bored. Cleaning up and honing these old straights keeps me busy.

Remember, he even honed a couple gratis awhile back.

Rescued a 5/8 Torrey today. Came in the mail this morning. Sanded and polished it. Then, bevel set on 1K Chosera Pro, followed by an Apache Red and then the Apache Strata. Shave test coming up tonight! Sorry my photo skills are so sub-par compared to most of you guys!

Two honed today. Both on the Welsh Slate Stones, and ultra finished on the SB Arkie progression stone.
Both had their issues. Both had very little wear, but needed new bevels set, due to unknown years of rust and mishandling. Both are now passing the HHT easily, without effort.
The Pipe razor shaved great tonight.

My Redder than Red Scaled Russkie 5/8th & My Puma Solingen 6/8th got the Escher Thuri Treatment this Week..I Reckon the Escher Edge Fits these Razors Well..Smooth as Butter & Almighty Sharp..A Fine..Yin & Yang Balance..This is a Fantastic Finishing Hone & Fast becoming a Favoured Edge of Mine..The Edges from this Stone Never Cease to Amaze Me..

I reworked three, from the start. They were honed a long while back, and they were lacking. At the time I didn't have a 60x loupe, and the Gold dollar needed more help on the heel. The Shumate had some micro chipping that I could only see under magnification.
They are all very very sharp now. Thanks to the Welsh Slate Stones, and Surgical Black Arkie progression stone.

OK my honing adventures and misadventures continue. I honed three razors last weekend, Rasurpur kami, PRC Chimera and PRC kami (l to r) on the following progression: Shapton ceramic 1k, Naniwa SS 5k, 8k, Shapton ceramic 12k, shapton glass 16k then stropped with Dovo red/black paste.

The Rasurpur was a success, the PRC kami a failure and I have yet to test the Chimera.
