Thank you for your wisdom. You, of course, are right. I will persevere. Sorry @wchnu I must complete my training first.
It will pay off. It's really fun to be able to pick up literally any razor and get good results on day one. That's what we want for you, so your future purchases and experiences will be informed and fun.
My gray matter is a little dense and it takes a while for ideas to penetrate and memories to form. Refresh me on issues you are having with your shave, and products you use? I seem to recall an Amazon all-in-one kit? If your razor is an R89 type, with Astra blades those are good gear. A badger brush? if it's not dropping more than a couple hairs each shave, keep at it, but be watching for a synthetic on sale for less that $20. Your soap is the question. I don't know the maker of yours, but I have a vague memory of Familiar name of a not so great product. I won't hold you to your Rule if you should choose a decent product. First and cheapest one I'd suggest is Arko. It's guarenteed easy to lather, lasts a long time, but some folks find it drying and strong on the lemon scent. If you wanted to spring for a Premium Soap, there's dozens of great products in thousands of scents. Problem there is what works and smells good to me may not be to your liking. Research leads to an informed decision. Glycerine based, Vegan types, Tallow products are all good. But then you can shave with Ivory soap, too. Can you find Barbasol canned creme?
I honestly have no problem with the kit, I just have a problem with wanting to buy things. Mostly just want to experience different soaps. I have my eye on a few that I will probably order after or right before the 30 days is up. I do wholeheartedly agree with @Bama Samurai and think it will be good for me to commit to this and just focus on technique. I will progress with my decent stuff now and enjoy the better stuff even more later on. So I will be making an order for more Astra SPs and that is all...unless it starts to look like I'm running out of soap. Not sure if this puck will last a month, I hope it will.
Chris @Bama Samurai know of what he speaks. He's where all this Rule/Focus teaching comes from. Folks like me are know as Enablers. While we try to stay on The Path to Better Shaves, there are shiny distraction that pull us to our ruin and destruction. Get your basic Technique figured out now and you won't be sitting on a pile of gear you still haven't figured out how to use later.
That is a very true statement. I was thinking as I was shaving how I used to find using them a very daunting idea and an even more daunting task. Without question the most difficult (and bloody) process of learning to shave I went through.
It does have a certain "style" to it. And the weight and handling is superb. The "DX" style head performs extremely well too.
I will break out my Feather DX for shave Friday or Saturday. I hated the Feather SS and greatly prefer the CJB and Feather DX. I wish mine had the cool wood scales.
I think I missed reporting my shave with the #137. Its like shave 15 or 16. Depending on how many shaves I missed. What I have found is it does best with soaps if you do not dunk the whole knot to start with. Just wet the tips. I do not think it will replace my boars, but I am very very glad to have it.
I got a couple of scars from mine as well, but the last couple of shaves with it have been almost automatic. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Lol. I do pretty good. The best so far is from a partictularly fun milignant melanoma on my right cheek.
It is. Never thought I would. The first time it touched my face it gave me a nasty slice. I said some unkind things to it, and it cut me again. We went back and forth and now we have a mutual agreement and healthy(ish) respect for each other. We still talk about each other behind each other's backs, though. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Sounds like my ex and myself. That was 6-7 years ago. So far nothing else has shown up. I started wearing a fedora more and long sleeves when in the sun. The scar is visable in this pic that would not load right. That was also a very nice La Gloria Cubano Maduro.
