Fuzzy, your video demonstrating the Schick Band Razor was interesting. I appreciate you posting your videos. I'm gonna have to try doing my touch-ups with witch hazel.
Thanks for the support. The witch hazel touch up is an awesome addition to my shave routine. Hope it works for you as well.
Interested to know more about this. I'm assuming it closes up the pores and provides adequate lubrication for touch up? Never heard of anyone doing this.
Pores do not open and close at all. I am not sure why I like it so much or why I started it. Plenty of lubrication and the stray rough areas are mowed down smooth. It works good with buffing too.
CF is great stuff and I used the lime today. A little really does go a long way with CF. Congratulations!
Friday Shave: So I went with Castle Forbes Lime, Kent BK8 brush and my Feather DX. The Feather was loaded with a Feather Pro blade and the blade already had two shaves on it. I could feel that is was not as smooth or sharp as usual but still plenty sharp. Four passes and no blood but some feedback but a tickle from the alum. M face was smooth so off to work. All in all a very good shave. Irritation A Closeness A Smoothness A- Sharpness A
I had a little break in the action this afternoon. What do do? Hmmm, maybe a couple of antique stores, you say. Ok! I found several straights, with these being the nicest. The Dubl Duck Satinedge appears to have been rescaled. The Wade and Butcher is a 6/8 with barber's notch and some nice scales. They were willing to go down to $75.00 for the W&B and $50.00 for the DD. The W&B has quite a bit of hone wear so I passed. It was hard to walk away
May 18, 2017... I didn't get a shave in yesterday. Went to go see the 20th Anniversary of The Fifth Element. Hard to believe it has been 20 years for that movie. I think it holds up well. So this morning I used the dreaded electric razor to get me through the day. Tonight's shave, I benched the SP Injector and returned to the Schick E3. Like my favorite razor so far. The rest of the shave kit I'm going to start calling my summer mix, as I really enjoy the combo. Especially the finale. - Schick E3 Injector with Chinese Schick Blade - Maggard's 24mm Synthetic Brush - Maggard's Sweet Orange PSO - Dr. Jon's Hydra Shaving Soap - Thayer's Lemon Witch Hazel - TSD Energy Aftershave Milk A few spins on the soap and the brush was loaded. A splash of warm water followed by the PSO to prep the face. While the oil does its thing, a few more swirls on the soap before face lathering (who ever thought I'd face lather). Two passes and some Thayer's touch up and I was good to go. Only problems were some small nicks I didn't even know I had gotten. It is cool seeing how far I've come in the wet shaving world. Lathering comes much quicker and easier, and the Schick is like a dream. I do need to start diversifying my kit usage though. Maybe not the razors so much, but the brushes. I've got some good ones and one more coming in the mail. Happy Thursday.
May 18 Gillette New SC Astra SP (2) JR # 160 Eufros Oriental Breeze Thayers Lavender witch hazel & unrefined shea butter Trumper Coral Skin Food For the last few shaves, I've been hangin' in there with this set up. I finished a series of three shaves with a Feather blade, and I'm two shaves in on an Astra SP. I plan to continue with this set up for a few days before moving on to my MAYhem shaves with my Trac II. Around the middle of June, I plan to switch to my Feather SS Pain Stick (with the widely-feared-by-girly-men-everywhere bump on the leading edge of the blade holder) loaded with a Feather Super Pro blade. I'll continue with this for a month or so. (This is actually the closest I'll get to a MAYhem shave, except it will be JUNEhem. I never said I could follow directions. I hope that's a not a requirement for TSD membership or 30DC group hugs.) My longest uninterrupted stretch with this razor was about six months, but it always takes me awhile to get back in the groove with it. Using this razor has helped me improve my shaving technique tremendously. DE shaves, in comparison to using the Pain Stick, are a breeze. I've enjoyed following everyone's progress or bleeding, as the case may be, this month. I hope you all are having a great week!
