@clint64, I don't usually comment on photos here other than "liking" them, but I did want to congratulate you on 10,000 posts and let you know how much I have enjoyed them. Your photos are always good - or at least strike me as being cheery, colorful, and enjoyable to see. And the accompanying text can be quite informative -- you convinced me to try Reef Point soaps, for example. And for your other posts, I have often found them helpful and don't ever recall seeing a post by you where you were snide or nasty to a fellow Denizen or anything other than polite, helpful and supportive. On the internet that can be quite rare, and I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for being part of what has made me want to stick around both the 30DC threads in particular and TSD in general for the last 8 months.
That handle is navy? Oops! I thought it was black. (I am slightly color-blind.) Uhm, Jason @jtspartan, I might have misled you. I told you the injector was a G-1, but if the handle is navy, then it might possibly be a G-4 instead.
It might be black! I've seen some navy handles with silver heads and just assumed it was one of those.
I'd like to get one of those some day. And one with the turquoise handle. All of mine are the standard colors.
So I have a dilemma, and I want your feedback. I have a package waiting for me at the post office that includes a new soap, and two awesome straights. A Filarmonica Doble Temple 14, and a Parker J-West. It also includes an L&L Bandwagon soap. I should also have another package that includes the Dirty Deeds soaps I will be giving as Shavey prizes. This week I have had two drama free and smooth shaves, with no blood or issues. I still have four planned Mayhem shaves, and a possible repeat to use the shavette again. My dilemma is, do I use one of these new to me awesome razors or go for another bloody Mayhem shave. I have seven options on the shave: Filarmonica Doble Temple 14 Straight Parker 510 Straight Chinese DE with Russian Blade CJB Pain Stick with Dorco Blade CJB Pain Stick with Kai Blade Mongoose with Dorco Blade Tape, Small Piece of popsicle stick, DE Blade I also have five options on the soap Dirty Deeds Bay Rum and Lime Dirty Deeds Tobacco Dirty Deeds Green Tweed Dirty Deeds Arroyo Cactus L&L Bandwagon (Barbershop scent) I am reaching out to my 30DC brothers, asking for wisdom, restraint, and a general willingness to witness the experiences of your brother, to pick a soap and razor for this Saturday's shave.
If you want a memorable shave, I would go with the Filarmonica and the Dirty Deeds Arroyo Cactus just because it's out of the ordinary run of soap scents. If you want to pander to the Roman Circus crowd, then I would pick the Arroyo Cactus again but pair it with the popsicle stiffener.
Thank you very much. You could almost make a guy blush. TSD is a special place and brings out the best in most people I have witnessed countless acts of caring, kindness and generosity from TSD members to people only known over the internet. I just try to live up to the examples other members have demonstrated.
May 19 (Friday) - Gillette adjustable comparison Gillette Fatboy on 3 / Topaz Platinum ( 2 ) Kent woodhandled boar brush The Red Green Duct Tape Special frankensoap Alum and TSD Lavender Aftershave Milk Did my second comparison shave with the Fatboy today. I think of the two I would have to give the edge to the Slim for its all-round great balance and general nimbleness. The margin is very slight though. I think Gillette maybe agreed with me, which might be the reason the Fatboy gave way to the Slim after 4 years. Tomorrow I will shave with the SuperAdjustable to reacquaint myself with how it feels. The difference there from the Slim is not the weight of the razor or the thickness of the head but the length of handle and location of the balance point. Today's shave was excellent; all the gear is familiar to me and works well. I finished with the TSD Milk not because I really needed a skin balm but simply for the great soothing lavender scent.
I had my first slippery razor injury today. I was bringing the blade up for an XTG pass and it slipped in my hand and rotated down to my face. I have a nice 1" slice that bled for a little while. The sad thing is that this was an otherwise stellar shave. Oh well. Arko Shave Stick AoS Pure Badger Brush Tuckmar Razor Mennen Skin Bracer After Shave Happy Friday!
Yikes! Sorry your shave didn't go perfectly. I want to move up to a straight razor some day but I can be a bit shaky, especially when I'm nervous. Like today, shaving before a job interview.
