Thank you for this. I'm 99% sure that it's not the edge and that it's all in my prep. I got lazy using SE razors, I didn't need any prep. I'm shaving in a few hours and I'm taking all the time I need to get my prep done right.

Today's shave was with a razor I had little hope for. It cost $5.50, and had oxidation, from heel to toe. I Buffed out a little and honed it up, knowing it would never look show quality. So, "Rat Razor" it now is. It took a very sharp edge, and gave me a near BBS 2 pass shave. Very smooth, and very comfortable. Zero issues with the shave.

    Soap- Stirling Ozark Mountain

Very nice shave topped of with some vintage OS. What a nice way to finish a lazy weekend.

    Razor: Portland Razor Co Chimera
    Strop: Drygulch 45
Brush Handle: B-400 The Brush by Tom
    Knot: APShaveCo Tuxedo
    Soap: Viking Valhalla
    Post Care: Thayers Witch Hazel
    Alum
    Osage Rub
    Aftershave: Viking Valhalla balm
Fragrance: Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male

What a difference proper prep makes! I took the advice of many people and lathered up with this wonderful Viking soap. I then took my time stroping the Chimera, letting the lather soften and moisturize. I then wiped the lather off and proceeded to lather up using the baseball pattern. Much better shave today, I had some tugging around my chin, the spot that's most coarse, but it was doable. Three passes today all with the Chimera, no blood, almost silent alum and a DFS. I'm off for a hot date, have a great day folks!

    22 or23mm - best guess a TGN finest

Excellent shave this morning. I had a synthetic knot in this brush handle and replaced it yesterday with a used TGN finest (best guess). The scales are not finished but mocked up o.k. The scales need a bit of fitting, sanding, polishing and pinning before being completed. Have a good one.

I'm glad it's working better. Some soaps lather better and thicker than others. The chin continues to be a more difficult area to shave for me as well.

Tonight's shave was with a restore that was dull and rusty as could be, at first. Now it passes the HHT-CN. I had a fantastic 2 pass shave, that left me BDBS. Zero issues. I have a few of this brand razor and each is fantastic.

My very generous prize came in yesterday. Loop looked decent so gave her a run last night. A respectable edge but I will be putting to my stones, the big escher for this one I think. Even with a slightly brisk edge she gave a bbs and is a very dense steel. I am more then pleased, thank you kindly @Queen of Blades . 20170531_004608_resized.jpg
