Jun 2 SOTD: Barbasol Soothing Aloe Barbasol Floating Head Voskhod (1) Stirling Unscented PSB Barbasol Brisk AS Day one on my new focus, and it was a great Friday shave. I used a straight Barbasol shave and got a near BBS on two passes. It's a great way to start this day. I am going to take a half day off to help my wife with a little party she is throwing for my oldest daughter's upcoming birthday, so that just makes this Friday even better. I hope everyone has a great day!
Well done Ben, you found they key and now doing your entire shave with a straight. I vote medicate, hope you are feeling well medicated this weekend and recovered on Monday Condolences on your loss, congratulations to your son.
June 2 - Ginger's Garden British Empire Merkur 34C PermaSharp (Day 5) 23mm AOS Pure Badger DIY PSO Ginger's Garden British Empire alum/Thayers/AOS PSB Today was the 5th day on the PermaSharp blade. It STILL is going strong. Today, I also got to use British Empire. Their website lists the scent as: . This is a vegan soap. To me, the soap was great except for the scent. It was very light to almost unnoticeable. If you nearly stick you nose in the lather, I got a short lived hit of citrus followed by a floral/powdery scent. This finished with a vanilla and coconut smell which could just be the smell of the base soap. This could be the amber, oud and musk but I am not well versed in scents and so might be relating it to something simpler to my nose. That is its only negative. Having read that this soap needs more product, I intentionally grabbed a bit more in the sample. I also kept the water low. I was able to whip up a nice lather but it did need more water than what the previous reviews , to me, suggested. It was not a super thirsty but about average. the reviews made it seem like a few drops was too much. The lather produced was classic vegan from my experiences. It was thick, slick and light in feel. I did not feel it needed any more than any other vegan soap so I do not understand why they needed more water. I think , much like my experiences, they are either use to softer soaps or ones that need lots of water. My soft water created tons of lather as well. It was very nicely moisturizing and yet did not leave your face feeling greasy at all. there was no residual left on the face and rinsed cleanly. If they could kick up the scent, it would be a great soap. Their vegan base is wonderful and works very well. If you prefer light scents, this is a must try. I tend to prefer bold scents but sometimes it is good to have something lighter and this would be perfect. The ingredients list is short and might also be good for some that have allergies but you must check them first. The soap protected very well and kept the blade from biting at all. It was a very pleasant shave experience. PermaSharp, to me, really lives up to its name. Here it is day 5 and I really do not feel this blade is dulling. All passes felt nice and sharp with minimal drag just like day 1. I would not be surprised if this blade makes it through the weekend. This blade is rivaling the Voskhods and Astra SP. It will be on my list of preferred blades. I just need to adjust my technique to get an irritation free shave. 3.5 passes and I did not want to give up the lather. I still had enough for 3 more passes, at least. Recently I was having irritation and the alum was stinging. today, I had the lightest alum sting and it faded quickly. For an old blade that tended to cause stinging, I think the soap, and technique, helped improve the end result. Only because PAA and Chiseled Face had stronger scents but similar feels would I lean towards them but I still would peruse GG soaps for a more potent scent and would be happy to purchase it in a heartbeat. If they would offer a strong scent in this soap, I would definitely think about adding it to my den.
Today's shave goes in here, as there's additional commentary: prep-Nivea 4 Men Bodywash(Platinum Protect)in shower shave-Fields&Streams Soap by Local Gent Shaving Co. brush-"lil brudder" by Stirling razor-la sensore deux pivote + jettABLE par Gillette A.S.-TSD Splash(Sub Zero) I think the brush was the problem yesterday-that ol' Burma Shave has seen it's last day. Just didn't load and spread as it used to. The "lil brudder made a BIG difference. I continue to be amazed at the power of the Local Gent Co. soap. It certainly has Stirling&Rte 66 caliber.
2 June 2017 TGIF Blade Focus Shave Pre: Plenty of hot water. Some soap off the pick plus a hot towel Razor: 1950's era GEM Featherweight Blade: PAL SE Brush: Omega 10098 Soap: Col. Conk's Bay Rum Post: Hot/Cold water rinse, alum block, Dominello Vitali Calming Post Shave Moisturizer After Shave: Clubman Virgin Island Bay Rum Final shave of the short work week. Decided on Col. Conk's Bay Rum. The big boar brush whipped up a very nice, slick, great smelling lather. The PAL blade had a significant fall off this morning. Only managed what I would call an okay WWS. But it's all good 'cause the next stop is the blade bank. With warmer temperatures coming, the scent profile is gonna change. There's going to be more Canoe, Clubman and Proraso Green A/S. Gotta keep it cool man. Hope y'all have a fantastic Friday. Last day of Solitary for moi. Yay!!
Same setup for the last two days, so here goes: June 1/2, 2017 Razor: M3 Schick Adjustable (5) Blade: Personna Twin Injector (2/3) Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22 Cream: KMF fragrance-free Post: Alum, Listerine, WH Not a lot too say about two great shaves. I continue to be amazed by the difference that the Twin blade makes in this razor. Normally, I have something of a love/hate relationship with it, but the Twin blades seem to mitigate all my normal issues. At some point, I need to try one in my J1 and see how it performs.
You talk about Clubman and keeping it cool. I once tried Clubman on a hot humid day, and ended up sweating profusely. Maybe it's OK to use on low-humidity days in the spring/summer...might try that. After all, the art of wet shaving has indeed turned me into a bit of a "mad scientist"!

Wow, asking a co-worker to faceterbate you? I have only been brave enough to ask my wife to do that, and she already thinks I am nuts. Hat's off to you!
June 2 Schick E3 w Personna (4) TGN Finest Fan Stirling Gentleman SS and Balm Thayers Unscented Continued the Injector focus. Had a great shave with this combo this morning. I LOVE the Gentleman, and many of you may remember that SWMBO does not. She is travelling for work, so out came the Gentleman combo. Great lather and enough days using the E now that I'm near BBS after 3 passes with no blood. Both the E and G types are giving me great shaves. I need to change the blades in the I1 (I'll use the twin blades in the I, thanks Screwtape) and the Injectomatic (the super vintage PALs) and get those dialed in as well. I'll be off focus for my weekend shave as I'm travelling for coaching again. A different small town this time- maybe I'll be able to find some 'hunting' time... Have a great day all!
