June 2017!!! Trials and Tribulations June 8 Razor - 1962 (H1) Gillette Slim (3) Blade - (1) Soap - Arko Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip Post - Alum Back to Trials tonight after some real tribulations last night. The cut is visible but not too badly so. So I did have to modify my pass around it a bit tonight to avoid reopening it. Shouldn't take more than another day or so to be all gone. The Super-Max Platinum is a blade I've used before. It's been awhile though so I don't remember much other than it wasn't horrible. On the mild setting it provided a nice DFS finish with very quiet alum. I'd say it is a mid-sharp blade at most that should perform better as we take it up in aggressiveness. I'd say I'm in for a few good shaves before moving on. I will say this about the Super-Max line, I don't think I've ever had a truly bad shave from one of their blades so this run of trials should be good overall.
6-7 June 2017 Sticking To It! Still super busy trying yo get caught up, but sticking to the shavette! I really want to absolutely perfect shavette, and I am almost there. Last night I missed posting due to Men's Night Out in Denver, because Mrs Samurai is awesome and understands that some things must be! Last night's entertainment just happened to be Metallica at the Stadium, so Electric Sheep seemed germaine to the topic at hand! Tonight, back on the Arko Challenge. @NCoxSTL - chicks dig scars! Additionally, heat wave coming in to the Mile High City, so Osage may be soon. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a fabulous Friday!
June 9, 2017 Wolfman Ti OC (.74mm) Feather Pro Simpson CH2 Synthetic Mystic Water Raspberry Lemon Fine Italian Citrus The Wolfman OC was a great change of base this morning. As expected the Wolfman smoothly and efficiently mowed down the whiskers. A two pass shave with touch ups ended in the expected near BBS. I finished off with a splash of Fine Italian Citrus. I hope everyone has a great Friday.
Not a good shave this morning. I mean it's a really close shave, a DFS near BBS but I was off my game and butchered my face. I blame it on the nicotine shakes. I'm trying to quit and I had one before dinner then fell asleep during a movie at like 7:30 or 8, woke up and went to bed so it had been awhile since I had one. Made me all jittery and jerky. At least it looks good besides the slash under the right corner of my mouth. Have a good Friday and happy shaving everyone!
Nothing to worry about. Everyone has a bad day. Congrats on trying to quit. I know how hard it is to kick the habit. Since quitting, I basically view almost all my shaving acquisitions as a reward for not smoking.
Wishing you success in quitting smoking. I had one relative pass due to cancer brought on by smoking and another come within hours of passing. he developed pneumonia and his lungs were filling up with fluid and luckily woke in the middle of the night and got to a hospital. lots of fluid was removed by a tap into the area. After this wake up call he tried to quit and eventually did. I remember when he was using a plastic cigarette to help with the oral fixation. Not sure it did anything else. He also had the habit of holding the cigarette in his mouth. Well, I was working with him one day when he decided to light the plastic cigarette!! Rather quickly he found out what smoking plastic was like and cursed his kids (since they got it for him as an aid to quitting)! It was rather funny to see. In all, I wish you lots of success in your endeavor. Stick with it. Well worth the effort.
Thanks guys. Of course you are right but over the course of a day it's just like now is a good time for a smoke and of course some fine motor skills suffer like this morning if I go too long without one. Fortunately at my new job(the complete opposite of my old job) I will not be able to smoke unless I leave the property. So that will help. I have lung cancer and heart disease in my family so I really should never have started.
June 9 - Enjoying the Pangalactic Gargle Blaster!!! Merkur 34C Voskhod (day 2) Dark Chocolate (Jr#148) Brush DIY PSO B&M 42 Alum/Thayers/AOS PSB I Love B&M and 42 is an awesome scent!! Today's lather was wonderfully thick, sick and just beautiful. The smell is is listed as petunias, ambergris, tea and Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster(lemon sugar). To me, I got hit with a medium to strong scent starting with a tea scent with lemon(no bitterness) and a touch of sweetness. The tea scent was reminiscent, to me, of Camomile and possibly a touch of orange pekoe. The scent finished with a warm floral that must be the petunias and ambergris. This was deliciously citrus and great. I found it light in body and makes an excellent spring and summer scent. To me, it is perfect to use anytime ! I love B&M glissant soaps and have a sample of their Reserve Cool which is suppose to be even better! Hard to believe they can make what I find awesome even better but we will see. Looking forward to trying the wife's Latha Limon as well. The Voskhod was working OK but was already showing some wear. My beard really does a number in dulling everything and the Voskhods seem to show it. I got a BBS shave in 3.5 passes and the alum was at most tingly. Excellent shave. If you like citrus and tea on the slightly sweeter side, this would be a perfect soap..... if you can still find some!! It is a limited edition and sold out in some places. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!!
9 June 2017 TGIF Blade Focus Shave Pre: Hot water, some soap off the puck and a hot towel Razor: GEM Featherweight Blade: GEM Blue Star Brush: Omega 10098 Boar Soap: Route 66 "Rum Runner" Post: Hot/Cold water rinse, alum block, cold towelx2, Dominello Vitali Calming Post Shave Moisturizer After Shave: Captain's Choice Bay Rum(WCS Sampler) Going to warm up to 80 today in the Great Garden State, so I felt a trip to the islands was in order. Broke out the 66 "Rum Runner" and the big Omega boar whipped up a slick, cushiony, great smelling lather. @Salty Belle can make some soap I'm here ta tell ya! Only problem today was the Blue Star pretty much fell off the cliff. Took 3 passes to get what I consider a decent WWS. Looks like it's going to be the PAL blades for the Featherweight. They at least stayed at the 2.5 pass level. Any old who, splashed on some Captain's Choice Bay Rum(which tho it has it's fans, can't hold a candle to VIBR IMHO) and Friday was off and runnin'. No worries mon!
Today's shave was with the straight razor that started it all. I touched this razor up on the stones last week and just had a wonderful shave with it. I can't believe I almost gave up on straights when I first got it. It is staying in the rotation SOTD The Body Shop Maca Root Cream B-400 Brush by Tom Faultless Razor Thayers Witch Hazel Chiseled Face Ghost Town Barber Happy Friday!
June 8 & 9 Sorry no pics for the last few days. Yesterday: '59 Flare Tip w Sharp Star (3 or 4) Soap Commander Endurance SS TGN Boar Thayers Unscented Barristers Reserve Spice AS I had a chin like hamburger from the few days before Thursday, so I retreated to a mild and safe combo. The Flare Tip and Sharp Star did the trick and I had a DFS, and didn't even open up any of the weepers. Finished off with the Spice for an overall nice shave. Today: Schick G1 w Vintage PAL (8, I think) TGN Synthetic Palmolive Classic SS Thayers Unscented Stirling Barbershop AS Back on the Injector focus, but did retreat to the G1 which I've got dialed in quite well. Tried Palmolive for the first time. It was part of my classic soaps Shavey Award Prize from @BaylorGator. A really nice, thick lather this morning. Not much for scent, but that's not necessarily what we use the classics for anyway. 2.5 passes to a DFS this morning and finished off with the Barbershop. One of my wife's favourites. Have a great day all!
Jun 9 SOTD: Razorock Plissoft Brush CO Bigelow SC Gillette Tech Ranger Voskhod (7) Stirling Unscented PSB Proraso Green AS Seventh shave with this blade, and not much else to say other than a near BBS on two passes. Still smooth and easy. I hope everyone has a great day!
That's probably the best reason I have heard for a bad shave. Congrats on deciding to quite. Stay with it!
