Tonight's shave was with a reliable French Razor, I obtained a while back, for a few dollars. It takes a very nice edge, and gave me a very nice, and very smooth shave. No issues at all. This is an excellent razor.

Razor- "The Starter" "769" Ro Delorme. Paris.
    Brush- Semogue 1800 Boar
    Soap- Stirling Spice
    Aftershave- Florida Water

Yeah, but also, I first got into DE & SR shaving to save money. You can't beat the price of the paper strop. :)

Just tried an experiment of shaving with these razors straight off of the 1K hone to test my bevel. One shaved and one didn't. Both bevels look good under the loupe. Sigh[IMG]

The discoloration at the wedge end of that top flight makes me nervous.maybe some more pics, inner scales and wedge itself. Might be time to resale just in case. Kudos for trying a shave off the 1k though, usually I just check the arm hair. Was it comfortable?

Are you referring to the purple coloration? A Google image search shows others that look like that , so I had assumed it was a normal coloration. The scales have some warpage and will probably need to be replaced anyway. The blade is almost perfect.
I did both razors on the 1K and one shaved better than the other. I'm going to look at both bevels under magnification tomorrow to see if I can see what is different. Thanks.

Purple may very well be normal but I would try to verify it again, just in case. The blade is really nice and would be a sin to risk it as well as others around it. You should post the microscope photo's if possible, I bet alot of us would enjoy seeing the difference with multiple steels on the same stone. Always see different stone comparisons but never different sleels.

I got this Lee Mfg. 5/8 sans scales. Last Saturday, I got some new scales from Maggard and put them on. This is my first shave with this razor.

The VDH Deluxe Shaving Soap face-lathered well with my Jayaruh #182 Synthetic brush. I did the first pass with the Lee Mfg. 5/8 (no nicks or cuts) and touch ups with my New Improved and Rockwell Swedish Stainless blade. I ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse and alum block, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Florida Water AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Berkshire Cutlery. Silky smooth shave with Stirling nag champa soap and balm, with a splash on alcolado glacial between, for some mentholated cooling.

Some Razors Take a More Definitive Sharp Edge from the 1 K Stone that Others Due to Variations of Steel & Temper..But..They All Should Shave Hair from the 1 K Stone..:happy088:

Thanks, Billy. This ODH is one of those razors I'm particularly careful with due to its susceptibility to the dreaded cell rot. Keep it in a dry & dark enclosure when not in use.

    FRUGAL SHAVER TODAY
Another very smooth 3 pass BBS shave.
One tiny knick on the chin - haven't done that in a long time. Was hurrying this morning - over confident.

BRUSH - Marvy Boar from Sally Beauty ($5 impulse buy - picked this up to use a coupon that got me $7 off my purchase).
SOAP - Hybrid Col Conk AMBER/Van Der Hagen Luxury
    RAZOR - Gold Dollar 100
    AS - Aqua Velva Musk
PRE-SHAVE - Rite Aid label (Noxzema clone) face cream as pre-shave. Found this for $.99 at outlet store.
Forgot how much face cream pre-shave improves the shave, and leaves my face very moist & smooth - no AS Balm needed.

A lovely shave with my French frameback. I feel like I'm still learning the optimal angle and pressure but it provided a surprisingly smooth and close shave. :happy036:
