Thanks Billy. I'm still a rookie when it comes to bevel setting and am trying to make sure they will shave at 1K before moving on. I've had razors that will pass an HHT and not shave very well, so I'm trying this. I had a 50% success rate last night and am going to take a closer look at the bevels to see what is different. I'll get there
Razor: Portland Razor Co Chimera Strop: Drygulch 45 Brush Handle: 30DC LE Knot: APShaveCo Cashmere Soap: B&M Lavanille Post Care: Thayers Witch Hazel Alum Osage Rub Aftershave: B&M Lavanille Another excellent shave this afternoon, everything came together for a DFS. This Cashmere knot is so soft but it does a great job and the 30DC handle is a pleasure to use. I love the scent of Lavanille and the performance is top shelf. Have a great day folks!
Tonight's shave was with a Beefy Little Wedge, I had restored a couple of months ago. I had a silent and smooth 2 pass shave. This left me with a DFS, without any nicks, cuts, or weepers. Very nice razor. Razor- Wade & Butcher. Sheffield England Brush- Semogue 1800 Boar Soap- Stirling Spice Aftershave- Osage Rub
Used to two out of three passes. Only two nicks, of which only one bled. Almost BBS and my face feels great. The Genco Old Dutch is a really nice piece of steel and Larry Andro put a great edge on it.
My favorite shaver: Flic. Incredibly sharp, smooth shaver. Two passes with a touch up for BBS dolphin smooth finish.
British Steel Warranted Good I finally finished this razor. It is the first smiling hone. It went ok for the first go. CCS. Tom Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Is that tarnish, or Sharpie remaining on the edge, towards the heel?? If it's either, then it's back to the 1k, and reset the bevel.
Tonight's shave was with a somewhat new razor. I don't know how old, but a baby compared to most of mine. I had a very smooth 2 pass shave, that left me BDBS. One tiny weeper, from a pimple I didn't know of. Very sharp and well built razor. Razor- DOVO Best Quality. Solingen. Brush- Semogue 1800 Boar Soap- Stirling Ozark Mountain Aftershave- Arctic Blue(Aqua Velva Knockoff) I prefer this scent to the Aqua Velva.
I agree. I can't trust the hanging hair test either. I want to be able to cut arm hair at skin level easily at 1K bevel.
Twin Quacker 'Goldedge' 5/8." Lovely 2-pass shave with a terrific new tallow soap from C&C. I'll have to do a side-by-side comparison with Stirling's 'Orange Chill' —another refreshingly-scented, mentholated tallow soap.
Looking forward for your comparison ,Kevin. I'm really jonesing for a mentholated soap for the summer. The lanolin also has me interested.
6/8 Wacker Inox Route 66 Bourbon Jungle Tuxedo knot Good shave this morning. I really like the scent of Bourbon Jungle shaving soap, good product too. Have a good one.
I refreshed a backlog of razors a couple of nights ago. This John Clarke has been one of my favorites but the last shave wasn't up to snuff. I took it back to the 3 micron lapping film, then 1 micron, and then a little time on the Arkie. It's back in business. First time with the Mike's Hungarian Lavender. I'm liking these soaps from Mike's. Tonight's shave was with a German razor. It is wickedly sharp, since the SB Arkie Progression stone. I had a super smooth and noisy 2 pass shave, that left me silky smooth. Zero issues. I don't use this one much, because it's just too pretty, and does not have much character to it. But, it is a great razor. Razor- J.A.Henckel's 70 1/2. Zwillingswerk. Solingen.
