Okay, for those of you keeping score at home... We now have the following: STD-301 OEM Double Edge Blades (i.e., Family Dollar, Dollar General), "high-quality" stainless steel, old school dispenser ST-300/ST-301 Dorco Prime, Platinum coated, regular white package (ST-301) or blue cardboard (ST-300) STL-300 Dorco Titan, Double-coated stainless steel STP-301 Dorco Prime Platinum, Double Teflon coating Interestingly, the Titan is not listed on the Pace Shave site, nor is it on the Dorco USA site. It's interesting that the Titan bears a 300 designation instead of a 301. Also, I wonder what the difference is between double-coated stainless steel and stainless steel with a double Teflon coating. I'm wondering if the Titan is just the Prime Platinum packaged for a different market or if there are some real coating issues going on. Neal, I really wish you would pick up a pack of the Family Dollar/Dollar General blades and sneak them into the trials. I'd love your opinion on what is going on with them.
June 13, 2017 Gem Damaskeene Open Comb Gem PTFE Brothers Bristles with Tuxedo Nuàvia Rossa I received this Damaskeene OC yesterday from replating by Nick at Sport Shaving. I am very pleased with the results and wanted to put the razor to use right away. After seeing @Douglas Carey and @Boojum1 feature Nuàvia soaps in their SOTD, I decided to break out the Rossa. The Rossa whipped up into a wonderful slick lather. The scent just feels the room and adds so much to the shave. With a fresh PTFE coated blade loaded, I went with a traditional 3 pass shave. The Damaskeene OC is a very smooth efficient shaver and delivered the expected near BBS easily. I rubbed the remaining lather on my face with a final rinse after everything was cleaned. I have found that this allows the scent to remain for hours and serves as a very good post shave balm. I hope everyone has a great Tuesday.
Okay, so I've resorted to running Facebook posts written in Vietnamese through Google Translate to find out more about the Dorco Titan blade... My gut feel is that the Titan is the Platinum Prime, but for the Vietnamese Domestic Market.
Jun 13 SOTD: Stirling Synthetic Brush Stirling Sandalwood SS Gillette Red Tip Rocket Voskhod (10) Stirling Unscented PSB Stirling Sandalwood AS I am at the airport heading to California again. Good thing my shave was good this morning, as I am not looking forward to this trip. 10th shave with this blade and it is still going. The Stirling Sandalwood has maybe become my favorite scent, so I used it this morning to get me ready. I hope everyone has a great day.
13 June 2017 Blade Focus Shave Since I have some Catie's Bubbles soaps on the way, this morning's shave was accomplished with CB's "Tonsorial Parlour". I really like the scent, slickness and overall feel of these soaps. The Korona/GSB duo turned in another outstanding performance. 2.5 passes with no neck clean-up. I think the GSB is hitting its stride on this, the third shave of the week. I finished up with a splash of Clubman and Tuesday was off to an excellent start. Have a great shave, have a great day!!
Thank you Jim. I am really pleased with the way it turned out. There was one small ding in the top that Nick couldn't get out but that is to be expected. Bestg yet the little razor shaves even better than it looks.
June 13th Schick I1 w Twinjector (1) TGN Finest Fan Jeeves of Hudson St. Apothecary Thayers Unscented Barrister's Reserve Spice Continuing with the Injector focus. First day with the Twinjector. Got a great lather with the Jeeves and Fan and went to town with the Personna twins. 3 passes later I think I can call this a true BBS with no blood. Splashed on some of the excellent Spice and was feeling pretty good about life. Strangely, I looked down at the razor while rinsing it with a twinge of guilt (bad grammer, didn't rinse it with guilt...) and thought to myself 'Did I have 3 passes or 6'. What a great shave, but how close is this thing to a Trac II? Enough reflection, it was a super shave. Don't need to 'focus' on this as it was perfect on day 1. Will pull out the meat grinder, aka Injectomatic, again tomorrow. Have a great day all!
Good luck on the trip, Jim. Perhaps a quick trip to a local antique store there will help salvage the travel...
SOTD Lisa's Natural Wet Shave Soap Wolf Whiskers Brush Henckels 72 1/2 Razor Lucky Tiger WSP Gaelic Tweed After Shave Have fun!
Tuesday June 13 - another day, another soap Rockwell 6s on plate #3 / Topaz Platinum ( 2 ) 30DC LE brush in natural maple with Cashmere Haslinger Schafmilch Alum Another Haslinger product today, this time Schafmilch (sheepmilk). It performed much like the Coconut -- easy to load, easy to lather, excellent shave performance, great face feel, virtually no scent. I can see why many people love Haslinger but those who enjoy strong scents don't. Two passes to a near BBS with no hassle or irritation. Tomorrow I move on to Institut Karite, a French milled soap containing 25% shea butter. Have a great Tuesday!
The thing I've noticed with WSP products-when the aftershave runs out, there'll still be plenty of soap around.
Stirling can handle a whole lot of water. And the more water you give it the slicker it gets. Awesome pic, Keith! Im still holding out hope for some Iced Pineapple for Fathers day. If it doesn't pan out I think I'm going to have to treat myself before it disappears. #nailedit That's some good smelling products there! Rick, you're making that shavette look good! How bout a wedge blade in that lather catcher ? Awesome photo, Clint! That Damaskeene looks amazing! Nice Rocket, Jim! Could you have found the perfect match on the first blade ?? I've thought that thought myself, Nice shot, Brian!
Thank you, Jason. I have looked a little for an antique shop in the area, but I haven't had much success in finding one. If things are moving slowly, which they likely will, perhaps I'll get a little more time to look around and see what I can find. Too bad Long Beach is so far away from Old Town Shaving.
