Thanks for all the mini reviews on the Latha line. Everyone comments on B+M's tallow soaps but nobody says much about the Latha ones. A few days ago, I ordered a knot from Maggards for my cypress handle from Jason, and I took the opportunity to get their sample lines of both the B+M regular soaps and also the Lathas. I am curious to see how they compare. Your Fatboy should be hitting the mail later this morning btw.
" I dint think you could use a twin in a E or G, now I see its possible!" Since when do *possible* or even advisable pull much sway here? I'm thinking the thicker twin blades may stress the spring tension. Tapatalk Via Kyocera
I did just a week ago or so in this thread. Tried Seville, Bay Rum, 42 and Rhapsody followed up with Latha Limon. All were great.
Sometimes, I really enjoy Staycations. I find they are more relaxing than most trips I take. I hope you enjoy your time!
Jun 14 SOTD: Razorock Plissoft Brush Stirling Bay Rum SS Gillette Red Tip Rocket Voskhod (11) Stirling Unscented PSB Clubman VI Bay Rum AS Shave 11 on this blade was a lot like shave 10. Pretty much a DFS on two passes. This is the longest I have ever gone on one blade, but it is still going. At this point, I would like to get at least 14 shaves, and I think that is likely. I hope everyone is having a great day!
Great photo Jim. You are on a run with this blade. Hope your trip is going well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wednesday June 14 - soap on, soap ever Rockwell 6s on plate #3 / Topaz Platinum ( 1 ) 30DC LE brush in maple with Cashmere knot Institut Karite soap Alum Today's soap is Institut Karite, which is billed as an extra gentle shave soap containing 25% shea butter. It fills the "extra gentle" part of the bill. Virtually scent-free, which makes it a good choice for those with perfume sensitivities. Absolutely no harsh or drying sensation on the skin. Easy to load from the puck and to lather, despite being a milled soap. Good protection -- a two pass near BBS obtained without any cuts, nicks, weepers or irritation. And a well-hydrated face feel afterwards -- I just used the leftover lather as a postshave balm rubbed in and later rinsed off. So where did it fall short? The slip and glide. There didn't seem to be much. It felt like my razor stuck to my face and was reluctant to move at the start of about half the strokes. the end result was excellent, as I noted above, but getting there was not as smoothly moving and pleasant a journey as with other soaps. It could be I didn't add enough water, although I thought the lather was slick enough. I will have to experiment for a few days with this soap sometime and see if it just needs some tweaking in the mixture. At the moment, however, while I will keep the soap and will continue to use it, it is not on my list of ones to buy again.

That must have been one heck of a balancing act while you took that picture Mark! Don't breathe, take the shot!
I spent another 'way too long between shaves' *sigh*. I put together a Dopp kit yesterday to haul with me so I could shave during the day - and left it behind. Anyway, shower shave today. OC OLD clone Astra SP (5 shaves in) VDH Deluxe VDH Boar Brush AquaVelva Blue Ice One pass DFS, then made a second quick pass to hit the spots that never seem to be done the first time. Noisy razor. Blade's still in good shape, but I think I'll toss it and pop a LORD into an Aristocrat and see how that does tomorrow. This clone is amazing. Even with it being slightly out of alignment (sideways, so you can only put the blade and base together one direction), it cleans up a weeks worth of beard in one pass with no trouble at all.
June 14, 2017 Razor: D1 Gillette TV Special SS Blade: German Wilkie Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22 Cream: KMF fragrance-free Post: Alum, Listerine, WH Back from my Dorco digression to have a few shaves with the TV Special. As much as I love the 40's SS, there is defintely something about the 50's Flare Tip. I'm not sure if it is a slight difference in geometry or weight, but it's a razor that feels very natural to me. Out of curiousity, does anybody know if a TV commercial for the TV Special might have survived?
Member @jmudrick is quite knowledgeable and may know more. Here's the clearest, most concise info I found while researching my heirlooms Krona DEs. ca. 1964-65: original design with short metal knob, two-ply center bar, labelled with code M-5 and "Made in U.S.A" plus either a "SCHICK" or a triangle logo, blank doors, approximate weight 55-g. ca. 1966: design revised with long metal knob, two-ply center bar, often labelled with code 6-M, "3-2" or "4-2", and "Made in U.S.A" plus either a "SCHICK" or a triangle logo, blank doors, approximate weight 50-g. ca. 1966: as above, but grey instead of black and branded EVERSHARP with eagle logo. ca. 1967-68: design revised for 1967 patents, plastic knob, one-ply center bar, often labelled with code 1-M, "PATENTS PENDING", doors stamped "Schick - Schick" or "Schick - Krona" or "Schick - (blank)", approximate weight 38-g. ca. 1968-76 or later: plastic knob, one-ply center bar, various codes, doors stamped "Schick - Schick" or "Schick - Krona" or "Schick - (blank)", approximate weight 38-g.
From what I've read, about the only difference with the Latha is that the scents are less "complex". Maybe I'm not a complex guy, because I've loved every one I've tried so far. I like them so much that I ordered the Original and Figgy Pudding on Amazon today (no longer available through B&M), and I ordered a their Lavendah even though I'm not a big fan of Lavendar scent, figuring maybe it'll make me a fan.
I have already stated(post #1030) that I used my newly acquired GEM Damaskeene Monday morning for Menthol Monday and had THE BEST shave of my life. So this morning I decided to use the GEM Brooklands. The two razors look a lot alike. I had expected to get similar results. Razor: GEM Brooklands Blade: Right Aid brand Single Edge / PAL Soap: Klar Seifen Soap - Classic Sent Brush: JR 180 (missed old friend) The two razors are night and day different. I am so glad that I didn't use the Brooklands before picking up the Damaskeene. If I had I probably would have passed on the razor. The Brooklands tore me up. I din't know if it was the blade the angle or what. The blade was the same blade I had used in the Damaskeene it might have been time to change the blade but I don't think so. Not to go down hill so fast, over night fast. In the middle of the second pass I changed out the blade just to make sure that wasn't it. It wasn't. I don't know what it was other then technique. I don't want to give up on such a nice razor. I must tame this cobra. Any insight will be gratefully appreciated.
I found the performance of the original Latha to be to notch but the scent was challenging to say the least. Could be the reason that it holds my record for least number of shaves from a puck of soap. Given the performance at some point I'll try some of the other scents. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
