Although I'm not a native-born Canadian I'm still proud to be a citizen of my beautiful adopted country and I want to wish all Canadian members a Happy Canada Day. Enjoy the celebrations and be safe!
Happiness to our neighbors to the North! Any Canadians care to share what traditional activities are enjoyed on your holiday?
Who, me? Nope. Fine where I am. There's a reason for the stereotype of the oblivious American. Never having been one to question why furniture stores have sales for our Presidents Day celebration, I'm genuinely curious what average Canadians do for this particular day on the calendar. Our own 4th of July is rapidly approaching. The rest of the world may have the same day on their calendar, but I'm guessing BBQ sauce doesn't go on sale in their grocery stores. The idea of our holiday may not make any sense to them without recalling it's Independence Day.
Oh, I was serious. Several of my friends participate in it. Basically, because of the rather.. extreme weather conditions in parts of Canada, it ended up that in Quebec, historically, leases began/ended on July 1st, so that nobody was forced to move in the middle of 4 feet of snow, or end up homeless at that time. So, in Quebec, and into Ottawa (across the river), Canada day is often referred to as "Moving Day". Frankly, I don't recall anyone in my family doing much special for Canada Day. Dinner, a sports game... Maybe a fire down on the beach with hot dogs and marshmallows, depending on how much of the family was together.
Happy Canada day yaay!..it's also our 150th anniversary..eh... https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/campaigns/canada-day.html
