I was bored for a while and didn't have any brushes to restore, so I decided to try and make one. I didn't want to waste a good piece of wood, so I cut off a piece from a 2x4. Yeah, not quality wood, but it was going to be painted anyway...... Penciled about where to make the shape...... Rough cut with the rotary tool...... Primed but sanding down some high spots...... Painted Olive Green and Light Grey with clear cote. Why those colors, because they are the standard colors of the U.S.A.A.F. planes during most of WWII...... Ferrule from my Modified Barbershop brush with about 3/16" cut from the bottom added to the handle with epoxy and a few pennies added inside for weight...... Decals made from images I downloaded for the P-40 Warhawks flown by the Flying Tigers. First pic is one of the Tiger emblems used on their planes. Knot is a 21mm synthetic...... This is the left side showing one of the Shark Mouth emblems they used on both sides on the front of the planes. Right side is a mirror image of the same...... Back showing one of the Blood Chits that were on backs of their flying jackets. Used in case they were shot down to identify to the local Chinese people that they were friendly, help them if needed and were there to fight the Japanese......
Cool! The P-40 became my favorite WWII plane after reading Col. Robert Scott's book "God is My Co-pilot" back in grade school.
Very nice project!! Looks good! What are the other projects you are planning? Are they also WW2 themed?
Hell's Angels, I believe so. I was going to use their personal logo also, but I decided to use the shark mouth on both sides instead.
