Thank you, Clint! I really enjoyed it. In fact, I am adding it to my future purchase list. I'll have to look at the AS as well.

    Rockwell 6s on plate #3 / Topaz Platinum ( 1 )
    Jason's "seconds" Cypress w/ Maggards 24mm 2-band badger knot
    Dirty Deeds Arroyo Cactus soap
Alum and Thayers Witch Hazel Astringent Aftershave

Today was the inaugural use of the new brush. I chose to use the Dirty Deeds Arroyo Cactus soap sample and I face lathered it. It worked very well. The two-band badger seems to have decent backbone for face lathering while still being soft and enjoyable to use. The knot ranks right up there with my Envy White badger. The handle, of course, is very close in design to the 30DC LE and feels much the same in use. I think I am really going to enjoy this brush.

The shave itself was my now usual two passes - diagonal on cheeks and upper lip, WTG on chin and ATG on neck, followed by an ear to nose XTG everywhere. It now gets me to a near automatic DFS, very close to a BBS, without any nicks, weepers or irritation (as long as I don’t screw up.)

Today was a standard day, topped off with a splash of Thayers WH Aftershave.

    Have a good Sunday!

Sounds terrific! I love Indian food. My wife and I really like Chai Pani in Decatur, GA. There is one in Asheville, NC as well. I think it's supposed to be authentic Indian street food. It's delicious no matter what. Hope you have a great gathering!

Route 66 is one of my favorite soaps and I have great luck with it. Maybe it's how I'm using it. I don't load a bowl. This morning I wet a synthetic brush, squeezed out excess water, but left the brush fairly wet. Then I gave it about a dozen swirls on the puck. It looks like this after it is loaded with soap.
I then swirl the loaded brush in my bowl for roughly 30 seconds and usually add a few drops of water as I'm swirling until I have this type of consistency.
This method usually gives me enough lather for four passes, and then some.

My Route 66 pucks last as long as any other soft artisan soap I have.
I realize that not everybody will like this soap, but wanted to share what works for me. Have fun!

2 days in and already 12 pages...

So I didn't participate much in the thread last month, but I stayed with my focus of trying the straight. I probably won't be participating much this month either, but I'll continue with the straight and hopefully add a different direction.

Hard to believe it is already July. Where has the year gone? For those of us who work for "The Man" we are in the 4th Quarter of the FY. 4th Quarter! Pretty soon it will be October, start of the new FY and then the calendar year might as well be over. Hopefully I will have gotten fairly good with my straight at that point.

    Hope everyone enjoys their holiday.

I realized I've done the unthinkable.

I have use the same shaving soap for three consecutive days!

I keep this up for the next three and a half weeks, I'd almost qualify for the 30-day focus! ;)

    The soap? Mitchell's Wool Fat.

I hadn't used it in over two months and figured it was time to break out the Fat once again.
I forgot how silky-smooth the lather is and what top-shelf razor 'glide' this soap provides. I also enjoyed the mild fragrance...a nice change-up from the olfactory onslaught many soaps have.

I know many folks find it troublesome and not worth the effort getting the MWF puck to lather properly. I have found that once you break the perceived 'secret code'** of achieving the lush, silky lather MWF can yield, it is difficult to ignore using this soap on a more regular basis.

**no real secret. Just keep the puck moist.

The struggle is real! I've been trying not to buy any new straights myself, but I now have a Boker Damascus on the way. The price and condition was too good to pass on. So where are the meetings at again?
