Happy 4th of July dear friends! It's great to be back after this wonderful vacation. My inlaws picked us up at the airport and nearly passed out when they saw our tans - right away they started giving us hell for getting so dark! Lollllll they made a huge fuss over us and drove us to the residence where Dad is and is it ever a lovely place. My parents hugged and kissed us, and Dad wept from joy. My inlaws told us he's been in great spirits this whole time and that made us happy to well as at ease. Last Night's Shave, after the shave I started to feel sick and spent the night "puking".. My daughter's stomach bug from last week finally bit me. Seems to be a 24 hour thing as I feel better. Shaved at the family cottage, and decided to use the outdoor kitchen sink and go with a cold H20 shave. 1. Etsy, RAALove peppermint bread oil as pre shave. 2. PAA Frost byte shave stick, rubbed it on my beard like a Arko, and lather was just exploding and flying everywhere. Haha, next time I will just load the brush directly on the stick as a little goes a long way. 3. Semogue 740 HD badger. 4. Schick injector Golden 500 on it's 3rd shave with a 1974 Schick Plus platinum blade - WOW, even after 3 shaves this is still surgically sharp and I was careful as to not scrape too much skin off. 5. Humphreys Citrus witch hazel. 6. Spieck afershave/ Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm.
This setup is too easy. A great shave everytime. This was my first use of this razor, NEW LC with thin bar handle.
Razor: AlumiGoose V1 w/Hempel Titanium handle Blade: Feather (3) Brush: TSD 30DC LE w/ LS (MS) Two Band Soap: Route 66 Bay Lime Twist A/S: Pinaud Musk Bowl: Boise Mudworks Blue The Route 66 Bay Lime Twist is a delightful synergy of pure East Indian Bay brightened with a generous twist of lime, mingled with ginger and supporting notes of lemon, lily, and grapefruit. It is a handcrafted traditional shaving soap formulated for long lasting, slick lather, with a protective cushion and glide soothing post shave conditioning. I highly recommend this soap. The scent really fills the bathroom when opened. I had a great 3 pass with a slight touch up for a BBS shave this evening. The 30DC LE handle fits my hand perfectly.
My mom will be moving to hers real soon, it too is nice. She's having trouble with the transition period.
Jeff, I am glad your dad is enjoying his new place! I know it is comforting to you as well. Continued prayers for you and your family.
I understand. The transition period can be very difficult for some people. I spoke to one of the nurses and a social worker today and they told me it could between 4-6 weeks for my Dad to adjust completely. He looked wonderful today, I must say. @Norcalnewb I cannot thank you enough for your wishes and prayers.
Tonight's shave was with an old French Hospital Razor. How old? I don't know. This is a Near wedge, that gave a silent, and ultra smooth 2 pass, BBS shave. This is a seriously sharp razor, that I am beginning to like, even if the Stainless Scales aren't my thing. Razor- French Hospital Razor. "H.G." Near Wedge. GUERRILLA/NACET :: EVERSET :: WHOLLY KAW First shave with the Guerrilla was very nice, although the handle was not intuitive to use. It's size is quite different from my other handles and will take a few shaves to adjust to. The head worked very well. Also first use of Wholly Kaw. Excellent. Overall a terrific shave.

July 2017 - Time to straighten up! July 3 Razor - Feather SS Artist Club - Pain Stick Blade - (1) Soap - Dirty Deeds Tobacco Brush - WCS Synthetic Post - Alum Switching pain sticks to the Feather SS tonight. And, sharpening up to the Feather Pro to let it all fly. We've discussed before the difference in the construction of the SS vs. the Kai. The SS has the slight lip on it to supposedly make it a bit less lethal to use. I have noted before that it changes the angle just a bit to compensate for it, and I have preferred the Kai design (also CJB) which copies the Feather DX in the design of the head. No lip on the Kai, just a nice smooth angle down to the blade. I will say that I honestly didn't notice much of a difference tonight in the SS after using the Kai for two shaves. Was the angle different? Slightly, but once set it was intuitive and I had no difficulties with it, save for a bad set down on my right jawline while trying to go with a diagonal path on my neck. That wasn't as much an angle problem as it was a problem in setting down the tip slightly ahead of the main blade. It caught, did a small 1/8" slice on the jaw and as it caught, the center of the blade skipped on the jaw causing two very small nicks. Nothing that a little cold water and alum couldn't handle. I've caught the tip of the Feather Pro blades before in the SS from the same basic technique fail. This was nothing compared to a few I've had. The Dirty Deeds soap did extremely well. I just love the texture of the lather. Whipped cream and slick as it can be. Of course, coming from one of our Kings of Straights, @Drygulch , I was confident it would work well with the Feather. The alum was a bit hot which I expected. The Pro blades are sharp and can be very harsh. I had a number of hot spots scattered about but nothing to get upset about. All in all a quite enjoyable shave with a razor I thought I was crazy for trying back in the day. I still think I could convert to pain sticks as my primary shaving method with just a little prodding and work. Hope your 4th is happy and fun! I'll be in my place ready to sell!
