  4. Hong Long? Sounds like that bit from Kentucky Fried Movie.

I think I actually have one of those razors, but have been too intimidated to ever actually use it.

  5. July 5, 2017

    Razor: Schick E2
    Blade: Personna
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22
    Cream: KMF fragrance-free
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

Sorry, no popsicle stick shave for me. Since I was going to be sending my G1 today to another DENizen who will appreciate it more, I thought I would shave with its E2 counterpart. Overall, it was a great choice and a drama-free DFS.
  6. Lovely green pic Doug and even lovelier grand daughter! Good for her!
  7. That's the brand. Hong Long, Nanjie, Rimei - those are all Chinese brands. Rimei seems to be the best for quality control. Nanjie is cheap, but usable (for a while), and I think I've determined that Hong Long isn't even fit for recycling.

I'll try to get some good close-up photos of how bad the blade holding is. There's also a Korean brand - Boyou - and I don't think I can call it a razor. The head doesn't even fit the base plate without force.

Wishing you the best, and hope your daughter comes out okay. I've known two people close to me that have had those infections that were almost impossible to kill.

  9. It's a pain for sure. She had been symptom free for two weeks so we were hoping. She started an antibiotic yesterday but I fear she is going to need the IV antibiotics again. And she is supposed to be going with me on a church camp trip next week. She's pretty discouraged and tired of feeling bad. I am trying to keep her spirits up.

  12. July 6 - Zi Peppino and a straight!

    Soligen black straight (pass: 1-2)
    Merkur 34C
    Sharp Star (day 1)
    AOS 23mm Pure Badger brush
    DIY PSO
    Razorock Zi Peppino soap
    Alum/Thayers/AOS PSB

Another day at the straight. Newspaper stropped 60 strokes. Did 2 WTG passes - no blood. Boy is my technique bad. Still felt the beard but 1 day growth is tough to cut. Blade passed easier today that yesterday. Finished with XTG and ATG with the 34C. Face was rather irritated. RR Zi Peppino whipped up thick and after the first pass I thinned it out. Worked better now. ZP has a tobacco scent and other things which I wasn't thrilled about. It was good but did not love it. I am not a fan of tobacco scents. I liked the thickness and cushion but the straights, I am learning, need maximum slickness and a bit more liquids side will make a slicker lather. I think I can understand why many put Razorock and a good soap but not a great soap. Once you have tried a soap reformulated in the last few years you can see why. The new stuff is just as good as oil mixed with axel grease.

In all, got a DFS. With everything, I missed a few spots on the jawline. I do feel that the growth today almost could cause me to wait a day between shaves.

Still have a few Razorock soaps to try from the pass araound box and a tub of XX soap I bought and will have to see if anything changes.

  16. Wow, anyone notice how much ground you have to make up here when you miss 24 hours on this thread? Holy schnikeys!

Well, first things first. I'm praying for your daughter Chris @SharptoothC. And for you as well. Nothing is tougher as a dad than when your kids are hurt or sick.

As for shaving, things have just been too nuts coming back from vacation to do the cinco thing, so I focused on trying 2 awesome soaps in the last 2 days:
First, growing up with an orange tree in the back yard, this scent brings back great memories. I can even smell the distinctive smells of the leaves and tree bark. Absolutely love it! FullSizeRender.jpg
Second, a surprise serindipity. Ever since I received my B&M Seville, I've been a bit bummed about my purchase, since the scent in the tub just smells like iced tea to me. Not really excited about shaving with an iced tea soap, I lathered it up this morning, and it blossomed into a beautiful citrus barbershop bouquet that I really dig! Totally a keeper and smells nothing like iced tea! FullSizeRender.jpg

Day 61 on the Arko!! Two passes to bliss. The SRX is now my weapon of choice. Had our first official 100f day on the prairie today. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado.

    Have a fantastic Friday!
