When you say vintage Williams would this puck count? I picked it up last night in an Old Spice grab bag. http://imgur.com/a/a2qO2
It's has a barcode, so I would like to know what the FIRST listed ingredient is? From oldest formulation to newest: 1) No ingredient list 2) Tallow 3) Sodium Tallowate 4) Potassium- something or other. (maybe -Palmate?)
Doesn't look like it is as old as I thought. Puck smells fine but I read that tallow can go rank. Is this puck safe to shave with? Doesn't "smell" off. I added a few more pictures. http://imgur.com/a/a2qO2
What you have is the second iteration of Williams. While it isn't as magnificent as the original version, you can certainly get it to lather. Of course it is safe. Try this method: http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/the-vintage-williams-project.45842/ Keep your eye out on ebay. They show up all the time. I recently found these: BTW, look for a manufacture city of Glastonbury, CT or Cranford, NJ. Avoid Beecham made in Pittsburgh.
Great stuff. I was also able to pull an Old Spice puck. Can I do the same cooking with that as well? That puck is much softer than the Williams so a bit worried about grating it that soft. Sent from my S8+ using Tapatalk
Primo, I sure do like your set up for today. I gotta get some of that vintage Aqua Velva. I really like that bottle. Clayton Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
Don't worry it'll grate just fine. And you're gonna compress it back together anyway when you put it in your container. Clayton Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
I face lathered the Williams last night and got what seemed like a good lather with my Semogue 830, but it started to dissipate after a couple minutes so I reapplied with my brush. I still got a smooth comfortable three pass shave. I just had to go back and load up on the soap again to do the 3rd pass and a couple jawline touch ups. Think I'll go back to bowl lathering, my lathers much better and it takes about the same amount of time to do. I followed up my shave last night with a cold towel to close the pores, followed by splashes of witch hazel, and Original Skinbracer. It was a great Williams shave. I had a bad experience trying that method. Now, I just "bloom" it (sorry "bloom" haters) and it is terrific. Here is the method I used. Maybe it'll work for you. http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/vintage-old-spice-soap-project.52665/
I wonder who came up with blooming?. I call it drowning the puck. Clayton Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
Classy!!! Awesome!! I bet the cold towel felt great with thecskin bracer. But pores do not open and close. The menthol had to have kicked in.
Great shave with modern Williams today. My well broke in VDH boar did great! The PAL in the 1902 Kampfe/Star was awesome with a classic shot of AV to finish up.
Today's Williams Wednesday shave is dedicated to the"FUZZ Man", my Williams inspiration!!! the mug is a custom one I made, amazon sent me 2 and I paid for 1 !! haha
Very nice. I have an Autostrop VC-1 that I need to try again . As aftershaves go there is just something about the drugstore classics like Aqua Velva, and Skinbracer. And either one goes good with a cold towel. Clayton Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
The Auto Strop is great. I love them. I very much agree on the drug store after shaves..Throw in Brut and Stetson and all the Pinaud stuff too.
Does Semogue still make and sell that brush?. I would like to have one. Clayton Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
