  1. I did a virtual 2-pass with my shaving CREAM(Rise) this morning, mainly on my left cheek. Missed a couple spots and ended up covering the whole cheek instead of the spots only.

18 July 2017 OLD Blade Focus Shave

Pre: Hot water, soap from the puck, hot towel
    Razor: 1911 Gillette OLD
    Blade: Shark Super Chrome
Brush: USS Belleau Wood tribute brush by @jimjo1031, JJ#1
    Soap: Catie's Bubbles "Florentine Fern"
Post: Hot/Cold water rinse, alum block, cold towelx2, Dominello Vitali Calming Post Shave Moisturizer
After Shave: Speick for Men Erfrischende Pflege

Today's shave was special. @jimjo1031 took a casual PM conversation and turned it into the great custom brush you see above. My Dad served on the USS Belleau Wood, CVL-24 from the time it was commissioned in 1943 to the end of the war. He crossed the Equator, turning him from a "slimy polliwog" into a Shellback. The ship earned 11 battle stars and after the war was sold to the French Navy, where it again served honorably before finally being scrapped.
So today I took the brush for it's shakedown cruise. As I would expect, it performed just like "The Eleven Star Lady". The soap was from Catie's Bubbles, so 60 seconds on the puck and JJ#1 was locked and loaded. Some swirling in my Lenox shave bowl and more swirling on my face led to a 2.5 pass BBS shave from the OLD/Shark combo.
Splashed on some Speick for Men and my Tuesday was off to a terrific start.
In closing I'd just like to say, that if you know or are related to a WWII vet, give 'em a hug, shake their hand and thank 'em for saving the world from Fascism & Totalitarianism. Last I read, we lose about two thousand of 'em a day.
    HOOAH!!

  3. My dad was a Supply Officer in the Navy during parts of WW2. Hardly saw any action, but every little bit(job)helps, I suppose.
  4. Great brush honoring your Dad and the greatest generation!
  5. Your photos are really giving me the itch to get a line in the water, Doug!
The Chimera is one wicked looking razor.
Stirling vs Tabac on slickness ? Too close to call for me.

  8. Nice setup Brian!
  9. How do you use the shaving soap "stick"-just rub it into and across your wet face and neck?
  10. July 18, 2017

    Razor: Schick E2 Injector
    Blade: Chick (2)
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22
    Soap: Cella
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

I had the house to myself this morning, so I broke out the Cella. Unfortunately, I rushed myself a little and the E2 bit me a couple of times though the only annoying one was one on the edge of my lip which took a while to stop bleeding. Still, it was effectively a BBS and a good experience overall.

  12. Thank you, Clint and Jim!
  13. @Linuxguile - I have three boar brushes. The big Omega 10049 is nice and soft and broken in. It's huge and works up lathers easily. I use it once a week at least with Mitchell's on Fridays.

The others are a Semogue 1520C and the smaller Jayaruh boar. The Semogue is pretty well broken in but not as soft as the Omega. The Jayaruh needs some breaking in, but it's getting better with each use. Not as stiff now.

I think I recall @Primotenore talking about a 30-day break in period for a new Semogue he had.

  15. Thank you Andrew. It was a great shave other than a scratch to my ear. This thing has a wicked blade
  16. Good demonstration of the shave stick, but I kept grimacing because he wasn't getting soap on the bottom of his neck. If stopped there, I'd either end up having a really hairy neck at the collar, or a very painful shave.
  17. Tuesday report on Monday night's shave

    C.O. Bigelow cream
    Semogue 1305 boar
    Osaka Suribachi bowl
    Gillette FB, Polsilver
    Alum, Osage Rub AS

Barely got my shave in to qualify as a Menthol Monday, then didn't take the time to write it up as it was between late night & early morn. I haven't used a menthol soap in a bit and won't get much more out of this tube. Fortunately BB&B or some such retailer stocks it so it will be replaced. Good service from the new*to*me boar brush. Being an Omega fanboi I might never have purchased a Semogue boar. Randy @BaylorGator PIF/passed this unit to my den in very nice condition. I've heard these sell new with an already broken in feel as compared to other China bristle brushes. For being a 22mm (X 55mm) knot it performs like a larger brush. No problems whipping up and applying menthol lather for this shave. Moved the Polsilver blade from the RedTip to the Fatty to get the comparison. I enjoyed the RedTip shave more as it seemed smoother. Still a good shave for both being 60 year old blade holders. Set the FB on number nine and enjoyed a Zen shave. Nothing remarkable, just a mindless, no hurry muss or fuss procedure. I'm not sure I can hurt myself with a Gillette DE anymore. Three passes, chin buffing, & G-slides presented a DFS+ result. Alum barely sparkled, but the Osage doubled up the menthol cooling.
    Good Shaves Y'all!

  18. Thank you Andrew. Dirty Deeds Arroyo Cactus will most likely bite the dust first. The next 3 with the least amount of soap remaining would be MW Lavender Lime, Route 66 Bay Lime Twist and Reef Point Test Depth. The Reef Point Test Depth had only 4 oz in the beginning so it had a head start on the rush to empty.
