I spent the last 10 days in Ohio visiting family. I hit up a few antique stores; passed on some cheap brushes and razors, nothing extraordinary. Then I found this beauty, a full bottle of Avon Island Lime. I love the scent, it's different enough from my Old Spice Lime to warrant the $3. Also came home to a purchase, Nuavia Verde. I'm excited to try this one.
See! That's all you people are...a sick bunch of enablers! You just lay in wait for people like me to come along! It's just wrong, I tell ya!
An excellent Schick G1 and a NOS package of Persona Blades circa 1992. Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
Ok....here ya go! I stand corrected, it's nine straights...plus a strop. I might've screwed myself...I won them all for $40, which is probably too high. But, again, I know nothing about them - aside from the fact that they're used to shave with.
Today's finds.... Including a working Stahly, 1/3 full bottle of Old Spice Burley, and a Bostonian(?) with case. Thats what the case is for anyway... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Tapatalk
I see at least five that I'd have given $10+/each. While Brand Name can increase value, being a lesser known but usable piece of steel is the important thing. Check with your local auto paint supply store for Wet or Dry sandpaper!
Thanks! I feel a little better about these now. It was a crapshoot. I didn't get the chance to look these over before the bidding began. There are a few I'll probably keep, the rest I might sell off. I'll pick the worst one to practice cleaning/sanding on. I still need to spend more time on DE technique before I even think about trying any of these, so there's no rush to do anything with the straights. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
When they arrive choose the very worst ones and do nothing to them - unrestored, placed in a shadow box with a old crappy unusable brush - right back to the bay for possible reclaiming of your purchase price. I see these "instant heirloom" pieces going for a good deal more than their value as shaving instruments.
I have to disclose that I am a synthetic brush user, with that said I really like this Stirling boar, great handle and weight, I did loose a bit of bristles but that's what boars do. I shave both head and face, my face shave with this bush was stiff, not uncomfortable, a bit harsh. Once I took the brush to my head it seemed to splay, soften, and performed really well. I did soak the brush for about 10 minutes which is my routine with natural hair, it held plenty of lather. This Stirling boar is a great value and very serviceable brush. I really like the handle as I've mentioned before, it's a classy look.
I have a Timeless razor and screwing the head to the handle is SO smooth I often screw/unscrew the razor just for fun.
Clint, I am so glad that you are enjoying your new Hawk, I have the black hawk, seeing yours makes me want one. Enjoy my friend.
Wow!! You have a knack for scoring great stuff. Congrats!! I want a Stahly head, I hear they shave really well.
