SOTN July 25th RazoRock Baby Smooth Gillette Platinum Stirling Boar Brush Stirling Iced Pineapple Soap & AS Last night was a whole bunch of new experiences for me, I felt like a freshman at a frat party! First off, the Stirling boar brush. As you can see the brush has already bloomed a bit after only a single lathering. The faint piggy smell was gone after a wash in Dawn and a lathering of Arko that I let sit in the brush overnight. My only other experience with a boar brush was the VdH brush that got me started, and the Stirling was night and day different. It splayed well, the tips weren't overly scratchy, had just enough backbone. I loved it! I can't imagine how good its going to be once broken in. Secondly, Stirling Iced Pineapple. This was the first time that I used a mentholated soap. I don't know how some of you guys can stand the glacial's, because I could hardly feel my face halfway through the first pass. The scent is amazing! I absolutely love pineapple and this is like cutting into a ripe Maui Gold! I honestly couldn't feel the menthol in the AS because my face was still so numb from the soap. Lastly, the baby smooth. WOW, what an amazing shave. It is a rather mild razor that clamps the blade down in a very curved manner. The result is that it pretty much forces a very steep blade angle. Smooth was the name of the game and after 3 passes and a little touch up I think I got the closest shave I've ever gotten with a DE razor and not the tiniest hint of irritation. I would classify this as one of the best shaves of my career. Have a great day my friends!
Wholly Kawednesday Very good shave today. This soap is up there with the best. I put a larger knot in my Slugger JR 159 brush, and what a difference 2mm makes! I used a 26mm synthetic from Maggard's and the face feel was superb. PAA Gondolier made my face feel soft and lends its great scent. Not a good pair with WK MR, but the latter scent fades quickly on my skin. RECENT SHAVES Monday Prep: Razorock Mister Joe Razor: Gillette Black Beauty Blade: Rapia SS Brush: Razorock BC Plissoft Soap: L&L Southern Paradise Post: Stirling MITA witch hazel, CK Olive Branch Went with Southern Paradise for menthol monday, the menthol is light but very refreshing and it mixes well with this beautiful scent. Got a smooth shave with no drama. Finished off with Olive Branch which is one complex scent, apercot, white chcoclate, oud, etc. It sounds weird but the scent notes blend in perfect harmony, plus my gf likes the scent which is always a good thing TUESDAY Prep: Gustafsons Woodlands Razor: Gillette Single Ring OC Blade: Rapia SS Brush: Razorock BC Plissoft Soap: Renegade Atelier Ides Of Fall Post: T&S Himalaya A/S Very refreshing shave, the scent of this soap is smoky but not overpowering. Got a decent lather that felt protective despite the OC Razor that is agreessive as hell. Still got the closest shave in a long time, finished off with Himalaya which smells amazing and soothes the skin perfectly. WEDNESDAY Prep: Musgo Real Orange Amber Razor: Gillette Fat Handle Tech Blade: Rapia SS Brush: Maggard 26mm synthetic Lather: P&B Denali, Jabonman Citrus Post: Stirling MITA balm, LT Decided to mentholate the Eufros Citrus with Denali. Had some trouble with the lather today, thin and airy, was concerned because the Eufros soap is a different consistancy than the other 2 tubs I have, very soft soap. Tried lathering it by itself after the shave and got the same thin dissappearing lather. Anyways, the menthol in Denali was just the perfect amount and did mix well with the citrus scent. Due to the lather problems this was not a great shave by any means, got some nicks and irritation. Finished off with Stirling MITA balm. Hope everyone got better results, shave on!
Hello everyone - here's today's shave: - Mickey Lee Soapworks "Grand Havana" - B-400 Cashmere - Option Five with ASP - Thayers Original Astringent Fantastic shave. I just love the scent of this "Grand Havana" soap. Performance is on par with the best.
Nice Superspeed! I recently had mine serviced and the plating fixed where the blade makes contact inside (was all worn and starting to rust), now it's back in pristine shape. It's the best 'overall' shaver for me when balancing comfort during the shave and post-shave skin smoothness. It's literally as comfortable a shave as it gets during the shaving process and the post shave skin smoothness, while not as close as an Old-Type, it's still very close nonetheless.
