  3. Today was a LIME kind of day for me.
    Sabi_Col_Conk_Booster_Lime.jpg
RAZOR: Sabi 3-piece - chrome (3 inch handle, medium weight)- a mildly aggressive razor for me.
BLADE: PACE DE (5 pack) - made in Vietnam
PRE SHAVE: Tri-Coastal Design White Birch & Tobacco Shave Butter - I have really taken a liking to this stuff.
SHAVE SOAP: Col.Conk Glycerine LIME shave soap - Trying to like this one. Good slickness but could use more cushion. Scent is pleasant but too mild.
BRUSH: Van Der Hagen BOAR (with hole in the middle) - this brush is a super lather maker. I can't explain it. It just works GREAT!
    POST SHAVE: Clubman Styptic Pencil
AFTER SHAVE: Barber Shop Classics BOOSTER LIME - chilled lime goodness.
BALM: Brompton & Langley Coconut Lime Lotion

Had a great 3 pass BBS shave. No touch-ups needed.
Lately, I have been enjoying my DE's again. FUN
  4. Adjustable (Arko) August!!!

August 4 - Grand Blade Trials

    Razor - 1962 (H1) Gillette Slim (9)
    Blade - [IMG] (3)
Soap - Route 66 Sweeney Todd
    Brush - 30 DC LE
    Post - Alum

Third and final shave with the Rainbow and I'm back to the Route 66 after last night's experiment with the best soap from Flat Lick, KY. Well, it's the only soap from Flat Lick, so there's that, but hey....it's from Flat Lick, and I just like saying that. Anyway, Slim is on 9, Rainbow is ready to roll and the LE brush and R66 have the lather in stupendous shape.

When I first shaved with this blade on 3 I mentioned that it was not a sharp blade. Not horribly dull, but the expectation was it would improve and maybe even really shine at the full aggression of the Slim. Well, that didn't happen but.....I can't complain. Nice DFS but the blade feels a bit draggy and just a bit rough in the wide open Slim. Last night's shave, in spite of the crappy lather, felt better and produced as good a shave. The blade seems to work best on the middle setting, so.....an average blade for an average razor I suppose. Gap wise, that is.

This isn't a blade I would stock up on. Again, if I found myself wherever in the world this blade is readily available, I wouldn't be upset to use it while there. I just don't see any reason to add it to my rotation in any way since there are better options available. Overall grade would be a C. Maybe C+ just because it didn't draw blood or leave major irritation. And we all know what C is. Average.

Speaking of average or worse blades, the march of the Dorcos begins tomorrow, including the cheapo version from the dollar stores.

The weekend is upon us, for those of you who have a weekend. Hope it's a great one!

  16. A very simple, back-to-basics shave from the Palmolive Classic cream. It bowl-lathered quite nicely in an empty Glacial Lemon Chill tub which I'm using for that purpose the odd time I use a cream. Two passes were all I needed to get my mission accomplished, although the Rapira blade seems to be getting a little tired. The Hega aftershave from Sweden has a very neutral scent, and it feels very comfortable.

    Have a great day, folks!
