1. :happy096: Excellent choice, looks in great shape. Whats the date code?
BTW enjoy the shave ... start low and work up. Between 3 and 5 is very nice for me. The indicators measure blade exposure not manliness. :D

  2. It is a 1959 E4. It reminded me of my fathers old Gillette so I had to have it! Damn shame his old razor got tossed out before it got into DE razors. I'm not gonna lie I can't wait to fidget with the settings haha

  5. Thanks. Managed to balance spending and finding one In good shape. It even has the end cap on the TTO knob and looks from the pic that still opens nicely. Hopefully the adjustment dial still works great. Either way a good find for only $50
  6. I used it on 9 once maybe twice ...

  7. Make sure the blade gap is even on each side.

  8. I have a couple of things coming, I bought another brush from EverShave on Etsy, a black handle tuxedo knot brush for $15 shipped, I have a clear handle from him and it's a heck of a deal.
I used the sample of Edwin Jagger Cooling Menthol soap awhile back, really like it, a lot! So I ordered a jar of it.

  10. Joseph, I keep coming back here to admire your stunning brush! Man, it's sure is pretty. Congrats!!
  11. Thanks guys. I wish it would get here!!!

  14. Are you taking about the 25mm flat top synthetic? If so thats a great brush!

I set one of those knots in a Fuller handle and it's beautiful!

  15. Good choice and a fine tool. I scoured every thrift & antique store and many flea markets between SW Louisiana and SE Texas. Found more than my share of Fat Boys. The good news is I'm not hoarding them. All but my E-4 have found new homes around the States.

Depending on your blade choice, beard type, & technique I'm hoping you enjoy your shaves. If not recovering your investment won't be a problem. Do start at the small numbers but don't be afraid of working your way up.

I haven't see a pure french bristle before; I'll have to let @bladeshark know I don't see it on his site.
No restoration needed on this one. :happy093:
  17. That a very nice and unique brush! Nice find.

  18. Thank you. I think it might have been one of those deals where grandpa received it as a gift and he used an electric razor (just sitting in a drawer for years). Opal is one of those brushes that made some great brushes, but toward the end ... not so much. They were only around as Opal from 1957 to 1973.

  19. Good to know. Ive passed on some opals because I had heard some of them weren't great but that's pretty neat.
