August 9, 2017 Razor: Schick M3 Adjustable (5) Blade: Schick Proline (3) Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22 Cream: KMF fragrance-free Post: Alum, WH I was a bit lazy this morning so I went with the synthetic brush. Got a nice, issue-free shave from the M3 with the Proline.
Lazy? Why not Efficient? We hit the evolution on synthetics at the right time. Early generations had problems because they were repurposed fiber designed for other tasks. Gradual improvements over several years kept folks interested. In walks all us latest generation of shavers of the last couple of years and they hand us plissons and tuxedos. While I still enjoy a fresh scrubby or a well broken in boar, and I'm learning to appreciate a dense badger - natural fiber is The Roots. I can see synths becoming the common brush of the Future.
I've gone exclusively Synthetic just because of how low maintenance they are. Add in the quick dry times soft face feel and great value it's a no brainier for me. Sent from my XT1710-02 using Tapatalk
Adjustable (Arko) August!!! August 9 - Grand Blade Trials Razor - 1959 (E4) Gillette Fatboy (6) Blade - (2) Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat Brush - Jayaruh #46 Post - Alum Day two on the Dorco ST-301 and the first comment has to be the lather. How do you over-hydrate a lather from the Fat? Use the JR46 with Maggard knot, that's how. Apparently I didn't shake it nearly enough to get the water out to a suitable dryness and when I started lathering I covered the walls, mirror, me, everything in a 6 foot radius. Ok, maybe only a 4 foot radius but you get the idea. I actually stopped, rinsed the brush and squeezed it out, then started with a new load to get the lather under control. Man that Maggard knot holds water. On to the shave itself and the blade at 6 on the Fatboy works nice. Nothing earthshaking, just a solid performance. Smooth enough to be comfortable and audible enough to enjoy that part. The only hiccup was one small nick on my right jawline on the second pass. Not sure if it was technique or a blade hiccup so I'm not blaming it on the blade. I suspect my angle got off at that point as it occasionally does when I get comfortable and my mind wanders. Alum was quiet so all seems well. This is a blade that has often gotten a bad rap for being too dull, rough, tuggy, etc., but it hasn't shown that tendency at all in the past two nights. Yes, it isn't the sharpest out there but few are, to be honest. We'll let it go full 9 tomorrow night before judging it completely. But, I can't say I hate it.
Well guess I better throw my hat in the ring! For August I'll be using the following. Razor: My lovely new Gillette Fatboy! Brush: VDH boar brush Soap/Cream: Proraso Red Blades: may vary some. Don't have enough of one for a full month but will use up my Astra SP first. Since I have 9 blades left.
Welcome @Talneharus! You picked the right razor and a good time to jump into The 30 Day Crew. Many of us are doing a theme - Adjustable August. Besides Fat Boys, you'll see other Gillettes, plus DE's made by other companies. There are a number of shavers using straights, too. They are the ultimate adjustables. We're already a few pages into the month. If you haven't yet, read Neil's opening post on the first page. Beyond that feel free to ask questions. We're all about helping each other achieve our best shaves.
Wednesday late night August 9 - a change Rockwell 6s on plate #3 / Topaz Platinum ( 1 ) 30DC LE Maple Cashmere brush Arko Alum and Thayers Witch Hazel Original Astringent For a change in pace I used my only stick, the one and only Arko, and facelathered. Aug 10 SOTD: Rubberset 400 Stirling Gentleman Merkur Futur Stirling Unscented PSB Stirling Gentleman AS It's always a nice shave after taking a day off. I am not quite BBS, but very close, and I always enjoy how smooth my face feels after an extra day of growth. The Futur did a great job this morning when paired with a Voskhod blade. Stirling Gentleman is a favorite scent, which just adds the enjoyment. All in all a great start to my day. I hope everyone has a great day.
