  1. Thank you all. Prayers are much appreciated. Like Rick, my house is high enough that we shouldn't have too many problems. The refinery, though is lower than the levy and there is a temporary repair in place on that. Parts of the are could see some problems if that repair doesn't hold and a bad storm surge comes through.
  2. I'll add my prayers as well! Be safe.
  3. Thank you, Perry!
  4. Glad it worked. Stick around.
  5. To all our TSD brothers in the path of the hurricane be safe. I'll be praying for you and your families.
  6. I don't have one here, but I did get dad's mid size generator operational when prepping a month ago. Do you have friends or fam to help them haul the people and photo albums to high ground?
  7. Thanks for the well wishes & prayers. Good part of the south coast seeing Harvey the next few days.

Review your Bug Out list with friends & family.

Thursday nights are usually pretty easy shave nights. Just the usual routine. But, since I skipped my head shave Tuesday due to some Eclipse burn on my head, I caught up tonight. I decided with the extra two days growth on it I'd try the Qshave on it. Setting 1 is .044 and that's a nice big bite to hack down a 10 day growth. Gave it a try and it wasn't bad but getting the angle was a bit tricky since I'm not familiar with it. Decided I had a better way of getting through the extra. Yep, it's pain stick time. Still had the Feather Pro Guard blade in the Feather SS so I just used that and took care of the head shave in quick order.

On to the second night of the Gillette 365. the JR46 and Sweeney Todd for the lather. Getting to the bottom of the Sweeney Todd. Need to reorder - made a note.
With the Slim on 6 this shave was immediately better than last night. Definitely more effective, though still not the same quality as the Gillette Stainless gave me. Two passes, touch ups and I have a very nice DFS but no baby. The Indian Gillettes just don't seem to be as sharp and effective as their Russian cousins. Still, no complaints and a very nice shave. Maybe the wide open Slim will give it that extra boost to compete with the Russians tomorrow night.

This was my first shave off a refresh on a Shapton 12k and .5 diamond felt. When I got this razor, the blade was SO good, I have had this weird fear of even touching it with my in experienced hands, like I was gonna destroy it or something. Well, a few strokes and it is good as new.

In my time as a "honemeister" (HA) I am learning some stuff. I have learned that I prefer some "crispness" to my edges. I bought a Dan's Black Arkansas, that makes an edge smooth as ice, but I really prefer the feeling of a 12k and then .5 micron film, or .5 diamond spray.

Now I am just trying to learn whether or not it is my honing skills (or lack of) that require a bit of crispness, or if it really is a preference.

One thing about jumping into SR's: you are never short of something to work on.

    Have a great Friday.

  12. I'll have to get our generator running in the next couple of days. I haven't used it in a few years, so that may take a bit. My parents live just to the NW of San Antonio, and they are wanting my wife and kids to head that way, but my wife grew up in Puerto Rico and doesn't think she should ever evacuate for a storm. Luckily, our neighbors across the street are fantastic people and he helps out a lot in these situations.

How about yourself, need any extra help?

  19. Thanks, Doug. I was gonna crop out the shadow....

The bottom piece of stock on that handle is amazing. It is supposed to be an aqua marine, and maybe there is a bit of blue to it, but it is so perfectly clear. I think I could fry ants with it. Anyway, it gives me some surprise pics now and then. I had no idea the light was reflecting like that when I took it.
