Soap - Stirling Electric Sheep
Brush - Semogue 620
ASOD - Aqua Velva Ice Blue
Second shave with the Gem and the first try with the Stirling Electric Sheep. This soap comes with a warning to try a sample before buying a full puck. Made with lemon, citronella and eucalyptus, this one definitely has some attitude. It is a mutton tallow soap so you do get the great aftershave feel of that. But I was a bit skeptical of the scent, which is why I used the Semogue brush instead of a synthetic.
As for the shave itself, near-BBS and quite comfortable and noisy. Alum was a bit quieter so my technique was better. No complaints. As for the soap - on first sniff of the puck I was pretty sure it was mostly citronella. Very strong scent. However, once I had loaded the brush and took another whiff I definitely picked up the citrus of the lemon. Almost an orange peel scent, actually, with the three scents apparently blending in well from the loading process. The feel of the soap is fantastic. Slick and thick just like Stirling should be and the mutton tallow adding its own special touch.
I was curious what SWMBO would do with the scent. She just kind of blinked and said "interesting" but didn't give it a thumbs down. Nor did I. Having used the Scots Pine Sheep yesterday I can honestly say I think I prefer the Electric Sheep. I'm not a huge fan of pine to begin with and, while the scent of the Scots Pine isn't bad at all, I do think I'd choose the Electric over it on most days. Since both provide the kind of lather they do I have no issue with either. But I do believe I may be a fan of the Electric. A couple more shaves will tell for sure.
For you guys in Florida and along the East Coast - I'd recommend you run, then duck. I'm a storm chaser and have always wanted to sit through a hurricane but Irma is not the one to try it with. Stay safe and stay in touch if you can. Thinking good thoughts and hoping she turns North and leaves the coast alone.
