By the time the Scorpions broke it huge in America in 1982, they had been at it for 15 years already. In fact Blackout (the album that broke the band) was their 8th studio album. The Scorpions have always been a good band and always had amazing guitar playing. There isn't a "guitar players" hard rock or metal band that doesn't love the Scorpions. Whether it's Michael Schenker, Uli Jon Roth or Mattias Jabs the lead guitar playing has always been stellar. But when we talk about who "The Man" is, it's Uli Jon Roth. Uli is a classically trained guitarist and that background allowed him to infused classical elements into hard rock. Many Guitar virtuosos like Yngwie, Steve Vai, Dave Mustaine, Kiko Loureiro, Marty Friedman, Jason Becker and Syu Galneryus all sight him as a major influence. Pretty much anyone that plays the neoclassical style got the idea from Uli. Check out the amazing solo in the beginning of The Sails Of Charon. This was recorded back in 1977, before the hideously overrated Eruption. It sounds like a guitar plugged into an amp. Not a lot of gain or delay. Enjoy !!!

Many people consider this the greatest debut album in history. It's certainly in the discussion.

A lot of virtuoso guitar players have attempted some or all of Vivaldi's Four Season at some point. Some have done it well like Dark Moor and Alexi Laiho. Some poorly like Dave Mustaine. Uli Jon Roth blows everyone away in my opinion. It's one thing to listen to it but it's another thing to watch him play it. He has the best vibrato I've ever heard and his picking technique is 100% his own. Uli's stuff with the Scorpions from 74 to 78 was great but it's this stuff that really displays just how good he is. Definitely top 5 all time in my opinion !!!
