Sunday's SE Shave Proraso Pre Shave Tabac Shaving Cream Jayaruh #217 Gem 1911 Lather Catcher Original Gem Cutlery SE CWR Thayer's Lemon WH Lucky Tiger I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The Tabac Shaving Cream face-lathered well with the Jayaruh #217 synthetic brush. I did the two passes with the Gem 1911 Lather Catcher and vintage Gem Jr. blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Lucky Tiger AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
Terrific setup, Mark! I can't recall seeing you use an injector before. Love that brush handle as well.
The original Schick injector delivered a superb shave this morning taking on three days of stubble. By the second pass it was already a smooth shave. After three passes it is now nothing but face-rubbing goodness. Schick in the 50s-60s advertised its L and N series razors as shower shavers, ie very mild. They are. The older razors from the 30s and 40s, especially some E series can bite. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
I bet the I with a twin blade was a close shave. Great picture also. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Actually, that's a J1 in the ad. As for the original question... An Injector is actually a pretty easy razor to use and has a feel more like a cartridge razor. The conventional wisdom is that they get milder the higher you go in the alphabet. Personally, I'd say that an I or J series (basically the same razor with different length handles) or an L is a great starter Injector. Can you cut yourself? Sure, but you can do that with any razor if you are not careful. (I've gotten the lobes of my nose and my upper lip a couple of times.) With an Injector, though, the head design pretty much means that the effective angle is also the optimum angle.
September 17, 2017 Razor: Gem Featherweight Blade: Gem by Personna (2) Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22 Cream: KMF fragrance-free Post: Alum, Listerine, WH I felt in a bit of a daring mood today and decided to break out a Gem razor. I've decided that part of my issue with this type of SE is getting the angle right. I managed to get a decent DFS, albeit with some heat from the alum and a bit of irritation under my jaw (a definite trouble area). The thing is... I seemed to get the best success by doing something which goes against everything I've read. According to the every Gem instructions I've ever seen, I should be keeping the cap flat against my face. Yet, for me, things seemed smoother if I actually lifted the cap off a bit and went more forward on the Safety Bar. What I don't understand is why this worked and was actually smoother since logic says I should be in face scraping territory?
As John said above it's certainly possible to cut yourself with an injector razor just as you can cut yourself with any razor. Injectors are smooth and make it easy to find the right angle. I highly recommend them. I switched away from DEs over a year ago and use injectors or SE razors on every shave now.
