This morning I decided to go for a walk in the woods. "Florentine Fern" by Catie's Bubbles is my one and only foray into fougere. It definitely reminds me of the forest.
The Omega Silvertip using the dry brush technique whipped up a great lather that made the brush stand up in the bowl.
I'm glad that tomorrow is the last day of the shave week, 'cause I really had to coax a DFS out of the MMOC/TREET combo. 2.5 passes and if I felt like it I probably could've gone the full 3. But it was close enough for work.
Splashed on some Speick and headed into work.

Besides learning to shave better, my photography technique has improved, thanks Jason.
Neal @NCoxSTL gave me the term S-slide or inspired it after a discussion about G-slides from the Gillette Slide. The technique is to hold the razor head off of the 90 degree orientation and make a pass with a scything motion. It's what I understand you get from a Slant style DE razor and gives the efficiency of a French guillotine.
It's illustrated in these 1940 Gillette instructions, upper left panel.

I think it is very different. It is a unique scent that I like a lot.

Unsolicited and unqualified medical advice from the peanut gallery here: it sounds almost like you have a contact allergy to something you wear when you go running, Jason. Do you have a specific running shirt or shirts you wear? Maybe the neck area fabric bothers you, or maybe that part of the shirt got contaminated with something that has stuck around as an irritant, like a pesticide or something.

Just a thought.

Thanks, Jason. Not exactly the Conquest of Mt. Everest, but it does give me a bit of quiet personal satisfaction nonetheless.

And to think I stay in "nicer" places now. Boy, have I lived in some scary, gross stuff, back when my kids were little and I was trying to save money.

I wouldn't say it was Unsolicited, John, I did put it out there! You are probably right about it being a contact issue of some sort, or how else to explain neck only? Laundry product isn't the answer or it would be a constant issue. The shirts I wear running I only wear for running.
My wife thinks it is a skin issue (fungal even?) that is exacerbated by the sweat or exertion.

I'm going to stop boring you all with this now, I think. It is much more fun to talk about Jared's (@PickledNorthern) hotel shenanigans instead...

Yesterday’s shave was interesting. Haven’t used this boar brush in a while, but it was my main brush for a couple of years. Didn’t realize how broken in it is. It is softer than my badger of synthetic, and beats all of my other boars for softness, while maintaining some of the backbone I don’t get in badger or synthetic. Working my way through this soap, down to less than 3 oz including the container. (Was at 4.8 oz in December.) Made a great lather in no time flat. I have thoroughly enjoyed this soap. It’s a near top performer, but a little expensive due to shipping from Spain. This brush is the one I measure all of my other ones against. Great feel.

For the razor today, I used one of my favorite ones, a Cattaraugus Seneca 11/16 I picked up in trade. It had been in storage for over 20 years, and still had an edge. I’ve never really looked at the edge under a scope, but have refreshed it a few times on some Arkansas finishers. Touched it up on Tuesday night with an Arkansas Hard and an Arkansas Surgical Black. It always leaves me with no post shave irritation, and at least a DFS, and this shave was very similar to others I have had with this razor. A little tuggy, and used more pressure than I wanted. Managed to slice my cheek with the muted tip when it slipped. Great post shave feel, very comfy and smooth. Whiskers came back a little faster than they do with a truly great straight razor shave.

If I had to guess, the bevel isn’t set completely on this razor, but the combination of very fine Little Valley steel from New York and well polished finish on the edge has made it useable. Before using again, I am going to take it down to the bevel, and reset that on a synthetic stone. I have two new Arkansas hones inbound, and I will take it through a five Arkie progression: Washita, Soft, Hard, Surgical Black, and Translucent. I know this razor is capable of super sharp and long lasting edges, I just need to get it there.

Aftershave dispenser broke while using it today. I then busted the lid off to get some out, and it didn't work. This container is hitting the bin unless I can figure out a new container soon. Its nice, but not special enough to work that hard for, when I have 24 other aftershaves.

If you do, make sure you go to a dermatologist. Your family doc probably won't have a clue.

I've been lucky in my adult life to stay in fairly nice or at least safe places. I remember once or twice as a young child staying in some less than savory places. My parents were not exactly well off when I was young, so they would save money on hotels during road trips. I am sure if I stayed at some of those places today, I would see a few things going on I didn't really notice back then.

Have you ever looked into exzema? Turns out I have two daughters with it, and one of them only seems to get break outs when she sweats.

Clearly all the credit goes to Shavette Fu. He'd be the first to tell you this if he wasn't busy revolutionizing all the bad photography and errant shaving opinions in Italy right now.

I gotta agree that Jared's game of "find the mystery panties" is a better story than your neck rash, Jason. Having said that, I'm hoping for all of our sakes that none of our wives ever find or read this thread. If they do, I'm pretty sure they'll have enough evidence to gain custody of our kids, our money, our shaving supplies, and any sharp objects within 100 yards of us if they so desire.

You know, I never thought I would read the words "mystery panties" and "rash" paired together on a shaving forum. If my wife does ever read this, I am going to have to force her to read the whole thread for context.
