Now the only problem with that answer is that so many of these...how do I say this politely... Gillette people...have never used a Krona so have no clue how good it is. If they did it would be up there with the Tech I agree. Pretty much everybody knows and respects the Tech. I'll never get rid of my Krona. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
That would be the Pre War design. I myself find it to mild, but I have an American one. The DE89, while using inferior metal is much better IMO. So I guess my vote is the DE89, or better the MJ90.
Best vintage razor I have used. Beats Gillette hands down IMO. I think it's plastic handle and the fact that Schick specialized in Injectors turns people away. That's ok , because I've gotten two of em over the years.
The 1912 is my choice for SE razors, but I was thinking about the masses when I stated the featherweight. To me, the 1912 is one of the finest razors ever made.
I hate the Tech. I could never get a decent shave from it. I cannot understand the love for that razor.
And today's winner of Multiquote Madness.... is.... @Keithmax (please claim your lifetime supply of Turtle Wax... yes Turtle Wax! At the door.)
If you are trying to find the razor everybody has had at one time or another I would have to say a DE89 or some type of Tech. On the SE side I would have to go with the 1912 as it was made for so long under different makers.
I never said I loved it. In fact, I'd be surprised if I've shaved with mine more than a handful of times. I was just answering the OP's question. I found the Tech to offer a boring shave. Predictable, boring, skill free, mindless, etc. If it touches your face, you will get an acceptable shave kind of razor.
I could use a Tech and be content with using it without actively disliking it.I like this challenge, because it's NOT about best, favorite etc...those aren't the criteria for which the OP is looking for. It's fun to take away the "best" and "favorite" limitations and just see if we can agree on one to meet the "everyman's" razor idea. Sure, it may be "settling" from our favs, but the simple design, ease of maintenance, readily available supply of them, and huge supply of blades to choose from would make me content to choose it for the OPs purpose.
The beauty of choosing a razor like the Gillette Tech is that it covers so many different options and variations; Zamac heads and aluminum handles and brass handles and nickle plated and gold plated and red brass heads with yellow brass plates and oval gaps and triangle gaps and solid bar and open comb and ball handle and fat handle and US made ones and UK made ones and ... Choosing the Super Speed offers almost as many choices.
