  1. Thank you Clint. :)
Yes I have. I used a stainless blade for last months focus on SE razors. They also fit a little better than the carbon blades, as I don't have to modify the blade at all. I am focusing on the Valet carbon blades this month because I had a strop made for it, then someone told me that it would make any difference in the performance of the blade. I have also been told that the carbon blades aren't any good. So all of this is to see for myself how the carbon blades stack up.
  2. Thank you, Clint!
  3. Thank you, Andrew!
  4. Thank you Andrew. That means a lot to me.
  5. Thank you Andrew. I have 22 shaves on the tub thus far. I already see blue peeking through the bottom of the soap so my guess is about 35 shaves total. When it gets close to the end I will move to using it everyday.
  6. Sounds like a great focus. I'm enjoying following along with your experiment.
  7. Nice picture, Perry! For some reason when I use Cool Wave, I get the scent of some of the Gillette gel I used to use. It isn't unpleasant, but it triggers those memories of when I used to hate to shave.

  8. DR Harris is easily one of my favorite soaps. It is incredibly slick and it's the easiest soap I've ever lathered.

  9. Mmm Tabac and Steton, powdery goodness!
  10. I never thought about Gillette Series Cool Wave AS not having much skin care. Perhaps the lack of it can be balanced off by using a quality bodywash(in the shower)and a quality shaving cream/soap(quality=providing good skin care).

3rd day of the focus, day 3 with the Old Type and Nacet combo. I hadn't used the Mastro Miche matched set in quite while. I bowl lathered a nice lather and went to town on a 3 pass shave. Spent a little extra time on my neck and was rewarded with 2 microscopic weepers and a near BBS. Good shave again.
I'll be travelling for work for a few days, but will take a NEW LC with me to keep the focus going. Will be gone long enough to check a bag, so won't have to worry about blades.

    Reminder-
To all 30 DC LE owners- I will be drawing for the bowl tonight. Sometime after 5 o'clock Pacific time after I fly into Vancouver. PM today if you'd like your name in the hat.

    Have a great day all!

  12. Great picture, Jason.
  13. I tend to prefer the New but only because it's more forgiving than the OT. However, my last few runs with the OT have been some of my favorite shaves. They are both excellent razors, just depends on how much you want to concentrate on getting it right. The OT has bit me more than once which, of course, makes it even more satisfying when I keep it under control and get a great shave out of it.

    Razor: Cooper MonoBilt
    Blade: TianLi Super Stainless
    Soap: RazoRock XXX
    Brush: 30DCLE
Post Shave: Aqua Velva Ice Sport

First shave on the TianLi SS, it felt exactly like the Super Blue. A little tuggy on the first pass but delivering a near BBS after 3. To clarify a little they tuggyness I experienced wasn't pulling per se, but more of a stickyness. It felt sorta like the blade was catching the hair and then cutting through it. First use on these blades kinda reminds of a Derby, like there is a little extra coating on the edge that needs to be removed before the blade really starts to cut well. We will see how the second shave feels on each of them, I have a feeling that the tuggyness on the first pass will abate a little. So, who's ready to give them a shot ?

  16. Great pic Jason! The WD HM knot looks amazing in that brush! Also the Mastro is definitely an interesting scent. I get a lot of something like oakmoss from sniffing the tub, I'll see how it transforms when lathered soon.
  17. Great photo and lineup Jason. Safe travels.

Great photo Andrew. The razor is just stunning.
  18. Thank you, Clint!
  19. I would say that Soap Commander is very high quality and the post shave feel of their products is exceptional. I think that Cool Wave, while not a bad product, is a lot of alcohol and fragrance. Little to no other ingredients to help soothe away the alcohol burn. YMMV of course.

I like Andrew's idea (@Linuxguile) about the possibility of adding some aloe or glycerin to help it out. But, I may just leave it alone since it was $4. Perhaps not worth the effort.

Yes! That's exactly right. I've used that gel in the past as well and it's certainly close to that scent!
  20. What a lethal looking Kami, Keith! Super cool.
