So two weeks back my car suddenly lost power and ran at most 40 km/h [25mph]. Turned out to be a break in one of the cables in the cable harness. Since the harness was cast in some kind of a foam housing, the whole harness had to be remade (custom job) and replaced. Duration: one to two months. Cost: a lot. The car was in need of a service job as well and a new technical vehicle inspection. So all in all: pricey! And we have had it for only 11 months, almost to the day. Return value of the car: practically nil.
Luckily they had a few reasonably priced cars and left some extra off because of the 11 month failure. Check one: how are the cable harnesses? - good. Overall condition? - good. Drawbacks: no airco; no CD, no tape cassette, certainly no way to connect an MP3 player - only radio; largest drawback: former owner was a
heavy smoker (no offense, ya'll smokers, but this was like driving an ashtray; everything reeks and has a yellowish colour to it). Hence the reasonable price. We went for it. SWMBO has been busy for almost two days cleaning it, but still the smell persists. It has even imbedded itself in the plastic material. Scrubbing with detergents helps somewhat and at least freshens the colours, but the stench remains. I guess we'll have to cover it up with some kind of car perfume.
Or I may leave an open tub of shaving soap in the car.

But at least I think we will have a good car for a few years. (fingers crossed)
