Been wanting to try this for a while. I have a Bakelite Clix laying around doing nothing so I think I figured out a way to convert one side into open comb. If it works I'm going to try it with a Super Speed.

Thinking filling in the ports behind the safety bar with a good epoxy putty, and when cured double layering some Dremel cutting wheels to carefully slice in some teeth. That should be all there is to it but I've screwed up good razors before.

One way to find out, I guess.

@gorgo2 Did you ever think about trying a tech as well? The 3 piece might be easier to manage than the tto superspeed.

Taped-off ports now filled with JB Weld. Not my first choice but all I have on hand.

I did, but the only other 3 pieces I have are the Clix EZ Flo and Canadian, neither of which I want to risk messing up.

I'll try with the $1.50 Big Lots special I just got.

This seems like a fun project. I might give it a shot if i get motivated.

I was going to suggest a thicker/stiffer epoxy than JB. It's runny but because of that it has now leveled itself nicely into the ports. So, so far so good.

Maybe one more thin layer when this one's cured, but probably won't be needed.



Dremeling it out will be either magic or disaster.

For the tech, I was half thinking silver solder or something of that nature. Not sure.

If it works, it would probably take a few tries to get something pretty, but it would probably shave alright.

Solder should work...tiny grinding tip to smooth it down, and the blade will hide that part anyway...then line up and cut the teeth...yeah!

Why not braze the lather slots closed on a Super Speed with a brass rod like would be used on a radiator repair. Then dremmel the comb out of the safety bar.

Only because I don't have the equipment. I don't even have a soldering iron at the moment. Good idea, though.

I keep envisioning a Senator/Red Tip.

I find your lack of faith disturbing, but probably warranted.

Next step will be a strip of thin styrene on the underside below the epoxy, as needed reinforcement. Then, the Dremel.

I was watching this thread, and I was a bit bored. I took my Janjie razor and rotary tool and said, why not. Now, I didn't do any measuring, just eyed what I was doing. Looks to be feasible on a better razor, like maybe a Super Speed that is user grade, and I have a couple that would work. Maybe use a Dollar Tree razor first for more practice. Taking my time and measuring the cuts, getting some needle files for smoothing the teeth out, it should come out better. Could be a project down the road........
