  1. Nice picture, Perry. It has a very vintage type of feel.
  2. I've had two no shave days in a row. I ended up taking yesterday off to spend some time with the family, which was a great day. We've been doing chores most of the day today. I am looking forward to tomorrow's shave. I hope everyone is having a great day.
  3. Good picture with a great looking brush Perry. :happy096:
  4. Thank you, Jim and Doug!
  5. Thanks very much Jim. Its a great handle to use.
  6. So I paparazzi'ed what I think is the thread in question. One point stood out as being a good ways into Shenanigans. It's nearly MAYhem!
  7. OCtober Focus = Winning!

    Tabac Original Shave Soap
    B-400 - Omega Pro98 boar
    Osaka Suribachi & cool water
    Fatip Piccolo, Personna LB
    Alum, Fine Italian Citrus AS

Allowing my shaves to be influenced by the gear others post reminds me how much I do enjoy this soap. I have a repurposed stick of Tabac, and a tub. Both provide the same thick & slick lather. Preferring to use a bowl during my prep the tub gets more use. Should I travel the stick is on my bug-out list. Same for the B-400 brush with three choices of knot. Using a hard soap the transplanted Omega #10098 was chosen. When I was enabled to shop the bay for a Fatip I found my Piccolo handled one owner at a good price, tho I'd thought about holding out for a Grande. This time last year I tamed this OC by swapping in the cap and handle from a Muhle R89. This time around I'm enjoying my improved technique and using the tool as the maker intended. Lather applied, I did my WTG, ATG, & XTG followed by chin buffing and a goodly amount of F-Slides. Rinse and alum swipe attested to time well spent here in The 30 Day thread. No nicks or blood, hardly any heat from the post shave treatment. Every bit a DFS like I'd expect from a Fat Boy.
    Good Shaves Y'all!
  8. There's always room for MAYhem, whether it's the month of May or not.
  9. Thank you, Jim!
  10. Update on using pre-shave soap:

I've added in Stirling's mentholated pre-shave soap to my routine for this month. I've never used any type of shave oil or pre-shave product. I just wet my face and lathered up and shaved. Now I'm lathering the pre-shave soap in my hands and then washing my face with it followed by a rinse followed by face lathering the shave soap.

However, I've noticed that my shaves this past week have been smoother than normal. I only do one full WTG pass and then a second WTG pass on my neck and a XTG clean up on my jaw. I'm not a two or three pass shaver. But just with that minimal amount of shaving I've noticed better results this month so far. Perhaps the pre-shave soap is helping? Jury is still out and I'll have a better idea by the end of the month.

    Happy shaves, everyone!

  11. I’m worried for your health, Jared. You are starting to sound delusional.

  13. Yep...I won't be getting one (unless I can score a deal like you did). I have a tough time justifying dropping a ton of cash on a razor. I enjoy seeing the pics of the expensive gear though! ;)

I wanted to use the Williams/Arko mix today. I bowl lathered up a whole heap of lather with the big ol' MS brush. The Valet gave a great shave after the first pass when I remembered that I needed to use short strokes. The razor gave me another smooth shave, not quite BBS but DFS. I am thinking that I have gotten the best shaves out of this blade and am afraid that it may be all down hill from here, we shall see. I will have to prep a new blade this weekend because I don't think it will make it through another weeks worth of shaves. I finished the shave off with the Alum block and then the Oland AS. When I first got the Oland I wasn't quite sure about it, but it has definitely grown on me. I find myself reaching for it more and more
  17. I'm usually a $15 tops guy. I like to find user grade and clean them up. I got a Slim for $3 because it was locked up and covered with scum. 24 hour soak and it's in great shape. I just got super lucky with this one. Right place and time, uninformed seller and buyer.

  18. Sunday Shave:

I am very impressed with Barrister Reserve, supper slick lather and smells great too. This Brian Brown still has it's 'factory edge' and today is was ultra smooth and very sharp, an amazing edge. Between the lather and the razor I felt the odds for an epic shave were good... 4 passes and yup, an epic shave.

    Irritation A+ Closeness A+ Smoothness A++ Sharpness A+

Razor: Brian Brown 7/8 grind 1/2
    Strop: Dry Gulch black latigo
    Brush: Shvemac Silver tip
    Pre: Proraso
    Soap: Barrister Reserve
    AS: Derby
    Scent: Guerlain Derby

  20. Thank God. I was getting worried you thought I was serious.

It is a beautiful bowl. And I have since caught up on the thread, so congrats to Brian @mrchick.
