After checking out all the different shaving scuttles available, I think I'm going to go with the Georgetown one. Has anyone here tried that scuttle? If so, can you recommend it? Thanks...
It looks, to me, like the Georgetown scuttle actually has the largest bowl area. I think I'm going to get that one because it looks large enough to build lather right in the scuttle. With most scuttles, from what I understand (although I may very well be wrong), you need to build lather in another bowl, and then transfer the fully lathered brush to the scuttle to be kept warm in between passes. That just sounds like too many bowls, scuttles, what-have-you on my counter. I'd like to keep it as simple as possible: one tool to build lather and keep the brush warm.
Welcome Maxpower! The TSD is the place to be! Yeah, it's the keeping hot water that is the problem. None of the sinks here have plugs/stoppers. :happy102 happy102 happy102:happy102

THIS is the one on my wish list... This is the scuttle that I will be getting at some point in the future... http://www.theshaveden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8344 I've never used a scuttle before, but conceptually it seems that this one would do the best job of keeping the lathered brush warm. Bob put together a very helpful review there.
Indeed a neat scuttle! Scuttle purchases all depend on whether you like to lather on your face, or in a bowl. My thinking is that a scuttle large enough to lather in will also work to keep the brush warm when I want to face lather -- so, for me, I think (hope) a larger scuttle like the Georgetown is the way to go.
Okay, to get back to this as promised, here is my Georgetown scuttle -- and it is BIG and HEAVY, which is a good thing, IMHO, because for the price, I sure didn't want any light-weight pottery. Here it is next to my usual lathering vessel (now that its "issue" has been resolved). Despite its bulk, it is actually quite comfortable to hold by hooking the thumb through the handle as pictured. Of course, lathering can also be done while it sits on the counter, and I think I may attach some rubber "grippy stuff" to the bottom to make it even more secure. And it works as intended, keeping my lather nice and warm through all my shaving passes. The inside has circular ribs that are supposed to aid in lather making, but I'm not really sure if that makes it any more effective than a smooth-walled vessel. My final recommendation: :happy088
Man, what a beauty... I don't face lather. I lather in a bowl and after looking at some of the finishes on the Georgetowns, I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up with one of them next to my sink. I love the fact that its big enough to build lather in. I still plan on getting one of the Dirty Bird standing brush scuttles, but it is no longer a matter of "which one do I get?"... now its a matter of "which one do I get first?" I had originally wanted to go with one or another scuttle... is there such thing as a scuttle AD?
Ahh, you're the one! When I read this string earlier, my curiosity caused me to click on that link. I was immediately struck by the Hamada & Persimmon scuttle and decided that I had to have it. I assume I should get used to resisting because I think I will be tempted much on this forum.
