I too love my one and only SSA, a 5/8 just as you described. Luckily the prices of SSA razors rarely go out of sight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I Honed them on a Naniwa Super Stone Progression & Finished them on My 16 K Escher Thuri..The Honing Technique is Virtually the Same as an SR..But..One Needs to Develop a Feel for them on the Hone..Other than that they Hone Up the Same as an SR..I Learned to Hone on SE Hollow Ground Blades before I Took Up SRs.. Billy..
Yamada Beauty 6/8 heavy blade and "buttah smooth". I only have two Japanese straights, but both are heavy, shiny, sharp, smooth shavers.
Tonight's shave was silky smooth, with a restored Covered Tang razor. I had a 2 pass shave, that left me with a near BBS shave. Zero issues, just pure smoothness. Razor- "Excelsior". Covered tang. Brush- Stirling Boar Soap- Arko/Avon Spicy Aftershave- Pinaud Clubman
Custom Brian Brown French-point, Valobra soft-soap, slick Jayaruh custom 2-band badger and my typical Snake Bite finish...
Thank you. It was an Antiques Fair find and I wonder who made it. It sure looks similar to a Dovo I have and was made in Germany with Silver Steel according to the backside stamp.
