Wednesday shave: This razor has allot of shaves since it last saw a touch up and it showed it this shave. Still some smoothness and sharp enough to shave but not as sharp as I like. You are asking the wrong guy when you ask me to describe a scent. I have about four different scent profiles I can use to describe an aftershave. 1. Yuck, this smells like $&#% 2. Maybe if I was an old man 3. I'm not embarrassed to wear this one. 4. See below. I would rate this one a solid 3.5 I asked my wife how she would describe it and she said, "Smells great, tell him to just buy it!" Sorry I couldn't be more descriptive
Thank you Charlie. My first wet shave was Christmas Day 2104 and I haven't looked back. I did the videos as well, but the real progress started in July of '15 when I joined the 30DC. There are so many helpful guys in this crew that I made this home. Of course, these are the same guys that helped pull me over to the Dark Side. I am loving straight shaving. OCtober!!! October 10 Razor - Gem Micromatic Open Comb Blade - (1) Soap - Tabac Brush - Jayaruh #46 Post - Alum Did I mention yet the Blues are 4-0? No? Well, they are. Just for the record. Now, on to the serious stuff. I had planned one more Shenanigan shave tonight, a challenge from @BearCWY but I haven't seen him around for a few days. I'll plan on taking on his challenge when I know he's able to follow along. So....not forgotten at all....just aiming for maximum effect. In the meantime I'm moving on through my OCtober razors and tonight a new one for me on its maiden voyage in my den. The Gem MMOC with Gem PTFE SE blade. To go with a classic razor I chose a classic soap. Tabac. Still one of my faves. The JR46 was fantastically easy to get loaded and the lather was glorious. Ready to give the MMOC a go. I've heard it's aggressive. And, after two passes and some touch ups I can say it isn't as bad as perhaps I had heard from a couple of reviews but it's no Super Speed either. The angle on this one is a bit different and the thicker SE blade sings like crazy. I can say, though, both from the alum and the after-shave feel, that it's easy to get irritated with it. The feel of the shave was really nice. Smooth, no blood, but my first run with it finding the angle consistently probably created some extra irritation. Hopefully I'll improve with it the next two shaves. No complaints and it's a very cool razor. I just need to get my technique set. Hope you are having a great week! - IBC Razor - Stirling Boar - Stirling Hot Apple Cider We are getting into some cooler fall weather here. For the last few days, it’s been hard frost in the mornings, and getting up into the high forties in the afternoons. It’s that catch-22 type of weather: too hot for a heavy work shirt, but too cold because you work up a sweat and then freeze in a t shirt when you stop moving. Being a “rather be a bit too cold than a bit too warm” kind of guy, I was glad that I packed my Apple Cider shave soap this week. It is easily my favorite cold weather soap, and am on my second tub. It smells like apple crisp, and the cinnamon lends a feeling of warmth to it. Countless times while freezing my berries off at work, I have daydreamed about a shave with this soap. I really love the stuff. This shave was going so well, I pushed my luck trying to catch the baby. I am still a little ham fisted with my right hand on certain parts of my face, and I got a little rough on one side of my face. I caused a couple of weepers that were a little stubborn, but I was definitely baby faced when I left the bathroom. All in all, a great shave, and definitely one that was on focus. OCtober 11, 2017 Timeless OC 0.95mm with Triad Ti Aristocrat Feather Rudy Vey Rover with TGN Finest CRSW Jeff’s Soap Floid Blue Another great shave this morning where everything just worked well together. Jeff's Soap is so easy to lather with great slickness. Three passes and touch ups along my jaw line and lower right neck caught the baby easily. I did get a couple of weepers but overall a excellent shave. I hope everyone has a great Wednesday.

SOTD October 11, 2017 Prep: Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap Blade: GEM stainless Razor: GEM Pushbutton Brush: Omega synthetic Lather: Country Club Cahaba Blues Post: Witch hazel, Jeeves Tobacco Bay Leaf aftershave WTG, touch up Really nice shave this morning. Cahaba Blues is a terrific soap made by Kevin at Country Club for Men. I'm not sure if he's making soap much any more. He took a break for a while and has reopened with an Etsy shop but when I last checked it was only for his aftershaves, which are also great. In any event, Kevin is based in my hometown of Birmingham and used a local beer as part of the ingredients for this soap. I enjoy the local tie-ins and should use this soap more often. In any event, easy and comfortable shave. The Pushbutton behaves quite well. The Jeeves splash is great and has a nice menthol kick. The scent of this splash is very close to the scent of the soap. It all came together nicely. Back to a shave stick tomorrow - probably Wilkinson Sword. Have a great day!
11 OCtober 2017 Weapons Free Wednesday Shave For this morning's shave I went to my other custom brush. @jimjo1031 after a casual PM conversation came up with a great custom brush paying tribute to both my Dad and the ship he served on, the USS Belleau Wood CVL-24. Earning 12 battle stars and a Presidential Unit Citation, the ship survived a kamikaze strike and after World War II was in the Fleet Reserve until being transferred to the French Navy in 1953. The ship was returned to US control in 1960 and subsequently scrapped. The brush itself is a great latherer and as I learned when I took it on the road to Columbus GA/Ft. Benning, compact enough to be a travel brush. As far as the shave this morning, 2.5 passes with The Fat and I was BBS and workready. Splashed on some Canoe by Dana and off I went. OCtober 11th Gillette Old Type w Feather (2) Stirling Port-au-Prince SS TGN Finest Fan Thayers Proraso Blue balm Day 2 of the OT/Feather combo. Whipped up a nice lather and had 3 uneventful passes. I did very minimal touch ups this morning and I didn't really feel any left. Ended up with one tiny weeper which didn't even survive the Thayer's. I picked up this balm at Winners, which is a Canadian version of Ross's or TJ Maxx. Wasn't looking for shaving stuff there, but found this balm for $6 (about 4.50 USD) as well as 4 Saponificio Varesino bath soaps for the same price. First use of the balm (or any Proraso product besides the Green cream). It is more of a milk, than a thicker balm. My first thoughts are that it is a pleasant and fairly forgettable scent. October 11, 2017 Razor: Gillette Flat Bottom New Blade: Tian-Li Super Blue Blade (1) Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22 Cream: KMF fragrance-free Post: Alum, Listerine, WH I received three of the Tian-Li Super Blue Blades yesterday from Andrew and decided to give one a go this morning. The razor was chosen as it is relatively mild and seems to pair well with the blades I've used it with so far. In the interest of full disclosure, I did not shave yesterday, so today was two days growth. Impressions: The blade looks well made even if the wrapper seems to be a complete rip-off of the Chinese Gillette Super Blue Blade. Surprisingly, I felt quite a bit of blade presence, much more than I expect with this razor. The first pass did have decent reduction but was seriously tuggy. I was not expecting much, though, so I can't complain that it under-delivered. I ended up grabbing the Schick '500' for the second pass and ending with a DFS. I'm honestly not sure what to make of this blade. It is definitely a cut or two above the usual Chinese carbon steel crap (Tian-Fu "disobedient" blade, I'm looking at you), but is still nowhere near what China is capable of producing (e.g., the Gillette Super Blue Blade or even that Pacific blade from Dollar Tree). According to Andrew, Tian-Fu themselves make better blades. It's as though they know how to make a good blade but didn't quite get it right on this one.
