Pictures, or it didn’t happen. No offense to the NB crew (If that’s your thing, go for it), but I’m still perplexed and amazed why anyone would want to participate in any sort of NB activity (or more accurately lack of activity). I mean, maybe I could successfully endure water boarding or having bamboo shoved under my fingernails, but doing it simply to prove that I can seems like a bad idea. In related news, for my next hobby I will take up pistol shooting, while buying as little ammo as possible. Should be fun...
Geez, no need to apologize, Clint. I was just poking fun at myself as much as anything. The trade ruling, if the official NB 18 thread deems it such, would be very favourable for me. Anyone need a brush or bowl next year?
If I was starting from a minimalist perspective, that ammo analogy would be bang on (sorry for the bad pun). However, with roughly 15 tubs, sticks and tubes with large amounts of product left, and one order still to go this year, I don't think that's the case. If I shave roughly 310 days a year (taking a day off a week) and have say 20 soaps in the rotation, that is only using each soap 15-16 times a year. That is barely over once a month. I don't think there is anything minimalist or miserly about this, actually. I could argue that a NB 18 will force me to spend more time with the excellent products I have.
Good thoughts, John. A software NB, with only hardware purchases allowed on a previously drawn out 'shortlist' of unobtanium with ridiculous price points at brick and mortar locations? I wouldn't get that by the NB 18 police, but might make that my own unofficial terms of reference.
For me it’s not about using up product; it’s about having lots of choices. You can never have too much ammo or shave gear in my book.
Of course some of us could use a different razor every day for a year and not repeat. There is a time to put the brakes on. It's kind of like buying several hundred pistols and 5000 rounds of ammo and continuing to buy just to buy I understand where no buy comes in.
Well, just as I was starting to take a photo, the focussing function on my camera failed. Then the Sasquatch noticed what I was doing and all I got was an unidentifiable humanoid blur heading out the door. (Isn't that usually what happens with both Sasquatch and the Loch Ness Monster? Nobody with a working focus on their camera ever seems to get within picture-taking distance of them?) I tried the NB this year; my sigline shows how long I lasted. . Not sure there's much point in my doing it again, at least not under the "official" NB rules. On the other hand, I found the idea did make me slow up even after I "failed" -- I now tend to think twice before rushing out to add the latest and greatest soap or AS or piece of hardware to my already heaping and tottering piles of shaving stuff. And then, for example, instead of buying full tubs, I hunted around and found places selling samples of all the regular B+M soaps and several English creams I was interested in and I bought those instead...
OCtober!!! October 25 Razor - Gillette NEW LC Delta Echo Blade - (3) Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat Brush - Jayaruh #46 Post - Alum So let's assume I've decided it's time to settle down and shave with one razor, one soap and one blade. We'll allow a few brushes to rotate the handmade brushes in my collection. So what would my one razor, soap and blade be? Well, I'm not ready to commit to that yet but the NEW LC, Mitchell's Wool Fat and Sharp Star blade are a combination to remember if that day ever arrives. Absolute perfection again. Well, ok, so it was only a near-BBS. ONLY a near-BBS in two passes and a couple of Gillette slides. Perfectly smooth, quiet alum, no issues at all. A great finish to three great days. One week to go and that means 6 more shaves in OCtober. Everything I need for NOVember is now on a boat/plane/submarine/missile. However they're moving it. I'm hopeful to have everything on or before the 1st. Let's have a great final week of OCtober!
Rick is very right about two things I've read tonight..... 1 Pinaud belongs in glass. 2 the Vintage Williams he sent me is great soap. Really.
I am in for NOvember. Will work on the Arko Challenge and use the Magic Salon Razor with GSB. Missiles, you don't say? Cartel is doing big stuff in the Lou!
So you're doing MOVEmber this year, are you? Everything you shave with in November has to have been on the move elsewhere in the world immediately before the 1st of the month? I suppose that's one way to add a small thrill of uncertainty to your shaving routine - not knowing if you'll have anything to shave with...
I'm not sure I'll be doing NoVariation November. I understand the concept but the idea of using the same setup for a month... Even knowing Decadent December is only a month away! Thanks for that reminder! I'm watching an auction lot that has two pucks of vintage Williams, one regular and one menthol. Twenty one hours to go.
OCtober 2017 XXIV-XXV October Took a little detour through some UK Palmolive. It's a nice stick, definitely a "cut above" in terms of feel. Lather was adequate for both the OC and the Magic, so I declare this stick a winner. Scent is soft, clean and herbal/floral and pleasing to me. A little scrape today, rusty on Shavettes after three weeks! Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a terrific Thursday!
Well you know how unbending we are on not following the theme. If you can't play along then........just do your own thing and kick off some shenanigans!! Sometimes No Variation can mean something other than a Rule. As in what I have planned. What is that you ask? You'll see. You'll see.
Just trying to stay ahead of Amazon's delivery options. The only problem with missile delivery is the big bang at the end. Kind of messes up the merchandise. And the house. Neighbors complain about the clean up too.
That's an interesting twist on it. Gives me an idea of how to make it even more of a challenge. How many countries/continents can you coordinate delivery from to hit a particular shave date? I'm only going Russia to U.S. Next time I'll have to add at least China and Turkey.
