October 27, 2017- Various AnTECHs Razor: NDC Post-War Tech Blade: Astra SP(2) Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22 Cream: KMF fragrance-free Post: Alum, Listerine, WH This was the trial run of a somewhat tatty Tech that I picked up recently. It was being thrown in with a pack of vintage Personna blades and he whole thing ran me $2.19 shipped. It cleaned up pretty well except for some persistent black spots on the ball handle. Time to take it for a spin... And... it shaves like a Tech. -) A very nice DFS with no issues. At some point, I need to finish cleaning it up and then figure out what to do with it. It's not like I really *need* another one.
Thank you guys. She wanted to go back so I am happy that it worked out for her. I think she will benefit greatly for things returning to as close to normal as possible.
When making my gumbo I start with unfrozen chicken, usually leg & thigh quarters and a package of hearts and gizzards. In cool water to just cover the meat slowly bring to boil. That lets the marrow in the bones get out and adds flavor and thickness to the final result. Fully cooked meat is removed from the stock & picked clean - I like a "clean" gumbo with no bones, skin, or gristle with the dark meat left big, but the gizzards sliced 1/4" thick. I put my veggies in a blender with chicken stock and make a smoothie. That releases all the flavors, pour it into the stock and get it cooking. Sausage may be browned in a cast iron skillet if I have time, or cut to 1/4" thick and just tossed in. After the veggie have come up to temp, a low boil, I add roux (always home made and using the iron skillet with sausage flavor helps). Then the picked chicken goes back in so it doesn't fall apart. After the whole pot gets up to low boil I start adding spices. Usually keep it mild for small children and old folks. Adventurous types can add hot sauce to their peril. Soy Sauce? It's both salty and brown flavor. Not that I've measured because it's to taste so rather than salt I give it a shot and sample. Another glug, and taste. Repeat as needed. My father adds Gumbo Filet (ground sassafras leaves) as he's seasoning, I leave it for folks to add as they please.
Thank you Andrew! It's a good mix. Jason - Watch flea markets, antique stores, & garage sales. Half my current stock came to me that way. I don't pay the bay's price just because it's vintage juice. Bottom left corner - "Adjustable for every beard" I know, who reads the instructions!?

Without this the Sheraton is so mild its almost unusable. Backing off a 1/4 turn makes it shave like a New or a Red Tip.
Friday October 27 - retesting the Dirty Deeds Fatip Grande / Topaz Platinum ( 2 ) Chinese hardwood with Maggards 24mm plissoft knot Dirty Deeds Arroyo Cactus soap Alum and Clubman VIBR I originally wasn't too impressed with the Dirty Deeds soap. I found its lather lacking and relegated the rest of the sample to handsoap duty. I still had a thin slice left so I decided to re-test it using the super goop lather method. I put the thin round of soap in a small steel bowl and built my lather directly on top of it. This time the Dirty Deeds soap performed much better for me. I obtained a lather both thick enough and slick enough that I shaved with the aggressive Fatip Grande razor safely and efficiently. I only did a single pass today but got to a DFS with no nicks, weepers or irritation and with silent alum. The Dirty Deeds Arroyo Cactus soap still isn't on my list of top soaps but I no longer think it is good only for washing hands. A splash of VIBR topped off a surprisingly good shave. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Thanks Rick. I had no idea, since I never read the instructions. I appreciate you and Andrew sharing this info. I will give it a try next time I use a TTO.
Sweet set up, Doug. Is your 1930's OC Ball End razor any different than a NEW LC? The handle looks a bit different, but I'm wondering about blade exposure, aggressiveness, etc.
I don't have a New LC so I can't compare. I do get a close comfortable shave with 3 passes. Sent from my STV100-3 using Tapatalk
I really like your outdoor photos Doug. You have become the master of super lather method. Bravo. If I start using that method I could really go through the soap.
Thank you Charlie and Jim . She's very excited to be going back and we are very pleased with the progress. And Charlie. Mom took her for retail therapy on the way home. A girl can never have too many shoes.
